Attacking Iran Makes No Sense, But Netanyahu Might Do It Anyway

The most strenuous objection to an Iranian attack by Israel comes from recently retired Mossad head Meir Dagan, who called attacking Iran “the stupidest thing I have ever heard.” His predecessor, Ephraim Halevy, seconded his assessment. Dagan’s successor, Tamir Pardo, and former Israeli Defense Force Chief of Staff Dan Halutz both declared that Iran is “not an existential threat” to Israel.

And since it is unlikely that Israel could launch such an attack without U.S. approval, the opinions of American officials are equally important.

American concerns hinge on Iran’s nuclear program. Though there is widespread suspicion that Iran may have a nuclear weapons program, there is no evidence that such a program exists. The latest pronouncement came on January 31 from U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who stated in testimony before Congress: “We do not know . . . if Iran will eventually decide to build nuclear weapons.”

His assessment echoes that of CIA Director David Petraeus and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta that Iran is not building nuclear weapons at present.

Well what do you know. Thousands of lives lost, 100 of billions spent, and a military stretched thin chasing shadows in the desert while the true supporters of international terrorism worked diligently to build nuclear capacity. Go figure.

The idea that Iran is not pushing toward nuclear arms is absurd-- with the ayatollah regularly referring to Israel as a 'cancer' and threatening to destroy the country, they would be stupid to just wait till they see the first mushroom cloud.

Maybe we could Colin Powell to do a special appearance at the U.N and declare that, without question, Iran has nuclear weapons and are just waiting for the right time to destroy the USA, Europe, Israel, Japan, Greenland, and if Australia egts in the way, them, too. Of course, his sources and information are classified and we'll have to take his word for it. Get ready to teach your sons and daughters how to eat with no arms or how to get around on that fancy new prosthetic. Or get a deferrment so they can go to Harvard. Yeah.....I made that last part up....

Hey Imclain, not to worry. If Iran or any other country launches a nuclear attack on the United States, our President Obomba has his finger on that "Big RED Button" for our safety. Of course, if the incoming missals are from a muslim country, we should probably just wait, to make sure of what happens. The only way he would ever press that button, would be because he had a nervous twitch, not because of any retaliatory reaction in our defense. He's a muslim, not a christian, know it.
