The Education Department Is OverhaulingIits Race To The Top Program

The program pits states against one another to come up with the most improvement in public education performance. The winning states receive hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants. Now the program will be open to local school districts, not just states. Education Secretary Arne Duncan tells the U.S. Conference of Mayors, details are still being hammered out. Duncan already has the go-ahead from Congress. Education will dole out $550 billion this year.

Another reason to eliminate the Dept of Education: Over half a trillion dollars that could be saved by butting out of local school districts.

That would put a BIG DENT in the deficit.

The U.S. Dept. of Ed is not only ridiculous on its face, it's another step toward eliminating local control of local issues AND a blatant violation of the 10th amendment. The fact that it even exists is prima fascia evidence that the constitution, which was designed to restrain the government, means nothing to those it was designed to restrain. The result? Tyranny.
