SEASONAL TRANSPORTATION EMPLOYEE FOUND GUILTY OF THEFT

During July 2011, the Ocean City Transportation Department received a citizen complaint, in reference to a city bus driver who was allegedly stealing fare money while operating the city bus.

Police began investigating the allegation on August 3, 2011, during which a second citizen notified the police of the same city bus driver possibly stealing fare money.

During the investigation police utilized the Town of Ocean City Auditor and the Ocean City Police Crime Analyst to determine the value and dates of the various thefts. The suspect identified as Melody Ashley Lennon, 28 of Salisbury, Maryland who was employed as a seasonal city bus driver, was questioned by police and confessed to the thefts.

Lennon was charged on August 29, 2011 with theft under $1000. Lennon was convicted of theft and sentenced to ten days in the Worcester County Jail, a $500 fine and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $100.
