Downtown Revitalizing Without The City's Help

While there may be a slight inconvenience traffic wise, two businesses on the Downtown Plaza area are power washing, replacing shutters and even replacing the roof on the Opportunity Shop, which will be undergoing a major renovation.

I too have been spending a ton of money on my own building, all of which I am very excited about. So every one knows, I have NOT received a reply from the City stating whether or not they will support me in an attempt to revitalize Downtown Salisbury. If you'll recall, I asked the Mayor and Council, (since Urban Salisbury is no longer) if they would be supportive and there's not been any reply.

Don't you worry. Anyone who is invested in the Downtown Plaza will be the recipients of a major boom down the road. Buy now before the prices start to skyrocket.

Joe-I also like the odds of new life downtown in the near future. I'm a city taxpayer, and not in a financial position to invest myself. I feel very strongly that it HAS to be a private investment exercise- this city has too many other problems and obligations.

Having said that, I applaud yours and others in their investment efforts.I'd also like to point out a different mindset of investor-the kind that's going to single-handedly revitalize downtown, but ONLY on the taxpayer dime- you know, money, long term taxbreaks, expecting to buy property for pennies on the dollar, getting a sweetheart deal, and then defaulting on it- blaming everyone but themselves. You know of whom I speak, and they are not the type of investors that downtown Salisbury needs.

Privately is how it should be renovated. Our public works is a joke, and any long time resident is well aware of this. I know many locals want it done, they just don't know how. Support the local shops/businesses. Without our business, they're outta business.

The renovations are great. If the City could get its act together and spend moneey to get make Salisbury business friendly we might get some new stores & restaurants downtown.

You want business friendly or you want corporate welfare? Tell Mayor Hissy Fit to stop trying to stomp the two ladies of the council and drinking public relations water for a photo opp. Spend some time getting his business departments together, starting with that joke of public works.

I live downtown and any kind of life is refreshing... Free parking and some more places to eat(NOT DELI'S) would go a long way.

People laugh when they see a Salisbury property advertised as "close to the beach".Out of state advertising of the downtown opportunities has not been done a lot.No great big promises mind you.Just an honest description of a town re-inventing itself.Even western shore investors might see the potential. As previous comments have stated, private funding is the key.
