PEDESTRIAN RELATED HIT AND RUN LEADS TO ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE

On Thursday, June 9, 2011, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Ocean City Police responded to the area of 139

The suspect, who was driving a white Cadillac Escalade, hit and seriously injured a
pedestrian in the parking lot of the 7 Eleven and then fled the scene. Officers located the driver of the Escalade, who was later identified as Richard Lee Edwards, 64, of Ocean City, shortly after the collision. Edwards was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder.

The victim, who was an employee of 7 Eleven, sustained serious injuries and was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. At the time of this release, Edwards was awaiting an appearance in front of an Ocean City District Court Commissioner. Ocean City Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
