More Scare Tactics to Stop Energy Exploration

Enviro-lefties don’t want the US to produce more energy domestically.  No, they simply want Americans to reduce their overall standard of living, pay $10 / gallon for gasoline, and ride our bicycles to work.

With the discovery of the Marcellus Shale in the Mid-Atlantic portion of the Appalachian mountains, America could move a long way to energy independence.  Oh my!  What to do?

Simple.  Scare the tar out of us by implying that our water supply will literally burst into flame.

This little ditty came to us courtesy of the Consumerist.  We use this site on a regular basis to provide SbyNEWS’s readers with interesting items that affect their daily lives.  We know that the Consumerist takes a leftward slant on many issues, but this one was a bit too much.

Ah, check the facts. Extraction of shale oil is proven to be quite a dirty job. I'm for opening up the gulf and parts of ANWAR; with off shore you have the potential for env. damage but the risk can be contained. We already know the processes used for shale extraction WILL cause damage. Not to mention the process consumes alot of energy as well.

Anon 0732 -

I can't comment on extracting shale oil. I honestly don't have enough information. However, the focus of this was not on shale oil, but on extracting Natural Gas through hydraulic fracturing (fracking).

I don't want the water table ruined any more than you probably do. My concern is that every time a new source of energy is discovered the usual suspects simply come up with scare tactics to stop it.

I'm all for conservation. I just think that the more energy we can produce domestically, the better off we will be from an economic and a security standpoint.

Excuse me for jumping the gun Harrison. I didn't watch the vid before commenting simply because so often the articles here are full of crap. But fracking is currently being performed over many parts of PA and it is not the clean cut process that the energy companies like to make it sound like. Unfortunately the main people often in support of go after these resources are not the same people relying on these aquifers for pottable water.

You don't get energy security, do you? Our policy is to use everybody else's energy while it is cheap. After we extract their resources we'll be left with all the cards, laughing at anybody who sold us their oil at $20 a barrel.
