I've been doing it for over two years. It works great and is incredibly inexpensive. I do a LOT of laundry, and a big bucket works out for about two months at at time.

Only initial investment that is not available locally is the 'washing soda' -- do not mistake that for 'baking soda' -- I bought a case of 12 52 oz. boxes for $35.00. I'm only on my second box. A bar of Octogon soap is like $.76 (used for many things) and a box of borax lasts a long time too.

If you want to save $$, try this.
