Oh Lord no, we cant do anything on MLK day.... It is a crime I am sure. But its okay to take away every other holiday from the kids. Get over it, Im sure MLK would not care if kids actually went to school.
Oh God, I just hope for their sake that they use presidents day also. Otherwise, the NAACP and ACLU will have a field day. Maybe even take memorial day, and promise to take next thanksgiving.
Seems like going to school and learning on MLK Day would be an excellent way to honor this civil rights leader.
Why not take the day closest to the days missed? This could be a shorter Christmas break, President's day (which was combined years ago so there could be a MLK. Washington & Lincoln "share" a day?). I don't see a problem with either. And, his "I have a dream" speech was to have racial equality. Aren't ALL kids going to school? red, yellow, black, white and all mixes?

I agree. I think that giving kids off for MLK day is truly a crime. Maybe making it a Federal holiday is alright, and maybe making those employees volunteer at local schools to share Dr. King's message would be a wonderful thing to do. Kids should be in school. Dr. King was about education and empowerment. If he were alive today, I'm sure he would be appalled by the fact that kids were out of school and most were doing nothing productive. School systems should make kids go to school and learn about Dr. King's dream, instead of playing video games and sitting on their duffs.
Why not take some of those professional days that the teachers have off. MLK day is to observe and pay respect to a slain leader who promoted racial equality for all races. If you want to work today, go to work. I'll take the day off with pay and watch my children live one of his dreams...playing with their 'white' friends in the neighborhood.
It's better than the kids going to school til July...
Sounds like a great way to make up a snow day....wish local school districts would do the same!!!!!
