Republican Primary -
While we all hope that Republicans make great strides in this year’s elections, only the optimistic fool would predict that Republicans will take control of either house of the state legislature. Re-districting will take place in the next session. As such, only a Republican governor (or the courts) can keep a greedy and arrogant Democrat machine from gerrymandering the state to the point that the Eastern Shore could be split among several congressional districts or that where I live (the Wicomico portion of 38-A) could wind up being in a legislative district that stretches to Caroline County (or beyond).
Maryland is in a fiscal mess. Only by replacing incumbent Martin O’Malley will we have a chance of restoring fiscal sanity to the once Free State.
Bob Ehrlich is the only candidate that can beat O’Malley in the general election and hold back the tide of statism that Marylanders have been forced to endure.
Ehrlich’s primary opponent, Brian Murphy, could well be a rising star in Maryland politics. There is no question that he is an outstanding candidate with some great ideas. Murphy stepped up to the plate when no one else would carry the GOP banner without the caveat - “I’ll drop out if Bob Ehrlich runs”. Brian should be commended by all Maryland Republicans, conservative and moderate alike.
However, supporting Bob Ehrlich is the prudent, conservative choice. Many will cry that this is a betrayal of conservative principles. NO! Supporting Bob Ehrlich in 2010 is the right choice for those that adhere to a true conservative philosophy in the vein of Edmund Burke. Those that scream “betrayal” or “tool of the GOP establishment” are merely showing themselves to be populist ideologues, not the conservatives they claim to be.
Bob Ehrlich is the best candidate for 2010.
Democrat Primary -
Incumbent governor Martin O’Malley is the only credible candidate running in the Democrat primary.

I agree with you on this one Joe. Bob Ehrlich may not be the perfect candidate, but he is by far the best choice for Governor of the State of Maryland.

Look - folks you all really need to look at the track records for both Ehrlich and O'Malley. If you look at both of their records then it really doesn't matter who you pull the lever for.
That is why Murphy is the only true answer for Maryland.
O'Malley is going to continue to tax and spend and so is Ehrlich. He may initiate legislation to reduce MD sales tax by 1% . . .but what good does that do if he increases car registration fees by 20%.
Redistricting may take place - but it might not be the type that you are alluding to.
You see the eastern shore could collectively decide for a succession move from the western shore. Right now it is a virtual waste of taxpayers money to send our eastern shore's 9 - Delegates to go against 132 Delegates from the western shore. And the Senate side is not much better as we have just 2 senators against 45 western shore senators. So numerically speaking we are never going to achieve parity with the western shore. They will always keep the better paying jobs, capital improvement projects, and so on.
I say the time is ripe to make a break and only then will we have better access to 'Pursuit of Happieness'.

Let me get this straight -- Ehrlich is not the most conservative candidate but he has the best chance to beat O'Malley. However in the Senate race, you don't pick Wargotz who has $600,000 in the bank and is running TV ads. Instead you go for someone with a $16,000 bankroll. Seems real consistent to me.
I also have no qualms about disclosing that I to am one of the members of SBYnews editorial staff.

I don't disagree that Murphy is an outstanding young man. That said, he can't beat Martin O'Malley in the general election. He won't even be able to beat Ehrlich in the primary. Your choice THIS YEAR is simple - do you want O'Malley re-elected?

If you could think in more than one dimension you would see that it is quite consistent. Ehrlich is not the most conservative candidate, true. He also ain't Eric Wargotz.
Ehrlich is right of center and has shown that he can do a decent job as governor.
Anyone who panders like Dr. Wargotz doesn't deserve my vote; I don't care if he had $10 million in the bank!
Whoever wins the GOP Senate nod (hopefully Jim Rutledge) will have a very tough battle for the general. However, Rutledge has a large grassroots effort that will hopefully be around for years to come even if he loses. Wargotz is all smoke, mirrors, rhetoric, and cash. Those are things that we don't really need more of if MD Republicans want to win more races in the future.

How stupid is this comment. You blast Ehrlich and O'Malley on their records, but they have something that copy cat Brian Murphy doesn't have. They have a record and Murphy doesn't. At least we KNOW what we are getting with Ehrlich. Put your big boy panties on and go whine until Murphy can prove himself with a track record. You need to take baby steps before you walk.
