Baltimore, MD Martin O'Malley and Anthony Brown will join with Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith today to make an important announcement on college readiness in the State of Maryland.
Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown will detail their plans to ensure that Maryland students graduate from high school with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college-level coursework and complete their degrees on time.
Maryland already leads the nation with the percentage of students taking and scoring proficient on AP exams and the correlation between AP participation and college success is strong.
Last week, Governor O'Malley announced his "Building Maryland Schools" plan to ensure that every Maryland student attends school in a safe learning environment. O'Malley committed to investing an additional $250 million per year in school renovation projects to build state-of-the-art classrooms for our students. Governor O'Malley was also named the National Education Association's "America's Greatest Education Governor."
