Troopers Investigate Accidental Shooting

Location: Southbound RT 896 at Glasgow Ave. south of Glasgow, New Castle County, DE

Date of Occurrence: Thursday April 8, 2010 at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Delaware State Police are investigating and accidental shooting that occurred while the operator was traveling south on RT 896 today.

The incident happened when a 25 year-old Newark man was driving his Dodge Dakota pick up truck south on RT 896. He told troopers that he turned to check on his German Shepard when the .38 cal gun located in his waistband discharged. The bullet entered his right thigh and logged near his knee cap. The gun was not in a holster.

He was flown to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted for a gun shot wound to the right leg. He was listed in stable condition.
