Car Strikes Building

Location: T.G.I.F. 19266 Coastal Hwy, Shops at Seacoast, Rehoboth, Sussex County, DE

Date of Occurrence: Saturday April 17, 2010 at 12:05 p.m.

Op 1 – Craig Engle, 49, Washington, DC
Veh 1 – 2009 Ford Focus

Resume:

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a car striking a building.

The crash happened yesterday just afternoon when Engle was operating his Ford Focus north on SR 1, Coastal Hwy, and veered to the left and drove over a median and entered the southbound lanes. The Ford then struck a curb and entered the parking lot of the Shops at Seacoast. The Ford came to rest after striking front of the T.G.I.F. restaurant.

The restaurant was evacuated after the car started to smoke. Engle was taken to BeeBe Hospital in Lewes where he was treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation is still going. Engle was cited for Failing to Maintain Lane, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway and Driving Over the Median.

The restaurant was reopened a few hours later after the building was checked for structural issues.
