SPRINKLER SYSTEM SAVES BOARDWALK BUSINESS

On October 19, 2009, at approximately 15:20 hours, the Ocean City Fire and Police
Departments responded to the area of 718 South Atlantic Avenue, (South 1st Street and the Boardwalk), to the “Gone Wild” souvenir shop, in reference to a building fire.

OC Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and began to contain a fire located
inside the “Gone Wild” souvenir shop, which was being suppressed by the buildings sprinkler system. The shop was closed and the apartments located above the shop were not occupied and had recently been winterized. Employee’s of Trimper’s Amusements originally smelled smoke and eventually located the source of the fire. No one was injured and the fire was extinguished by the OC Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ocean City Fire Marshal.
For additional information and updates regarding this incident, please contact OC Fire Department Public Information Officer Stephen Price at: 410-430-5155.

I'm with you on that one.
How many times do we have to compare a life against the $3000 installation of a sprinkler system in a new home construction?

Next week in Baltimore is the ICC vote on whether to adopt the International Building Code to sprinkler all new single family homes in the US. I will be there to vote "yes" and hopefully make this a law nationwide.
