The nation's largest newspaper publisher is eliminating at least a thousand jobs.
Gannett owns the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin the Ithaca Courier Journal and the Elmira Star Gazette..All three of which are printed in Johnson City.
Gannett is blaming the cuts on declining profits due to a lagging economy and the increasing popularity of online readership.
USA Today, the largest circulation newspaper in the country, will not be affected by this round of cutbacks.
The cuts will affect Gannett's other newspapers, which include 84 daily papers and nearly 900 non-daily publications.
The company plans to slash 600 jobs, and eliminate another 400 through attrition.
There's no word on how the three southern tier papers will be affected by these job cuts.
Action News has placed calls into the Press and Sun Bulletin and Gannett Corporate Headquarters...but were told they would not comment.

more jobs lost, more middle-class families with no pay checks. when will it stop?
Would some of those being canned have the skills to get the Daily Times out on time every day?
