School Bus Stop Arm Violations Increase in Latest Maryland Survey: School Bus Safety Week is October 22-26
BALTIMORE – Maryland school bus drivers reported a disturbing trend in the Maryland State Department of Education’s latest survey of driver behavior: more are ignoring bus stop arms.
Stop arms swing out from a bus and lights flash whenever it is making an on-roadway student pick-up. A total of 3,812 violations of school bus stop arms were recorded on a single day last spring, compared to 3,384 observed violations in 2017.
“School safety begins with making sure our students have a safe bus trip to and from school,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “This week is a reminder for parents, students, drivers, and others to promote the importance of school bus safety across our state by following simple tips to ensure our children arrive at school unharmed and ready to learn.”
Last year’s uptick is still a significant decrease from 2016, when the number stood at 4,334, and well below the 7,011 recorded when the survey began in 2011. But it is crucial to maintain a focus on school bus safety for students, according to Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools.
“Each Maryland driver must do their part to maintain safe driving practices, and remember that the lives of our students are at stake,” Dr. Salmon said. “It is illegal to pass a bus with its stop arm extended and its lights flashing. Our newest survey results show there remains much room for improvement. One violation of the Stop Arm is one too many.”
MSDE coordinated the survey in April along with school transportation directors in all 24 school systems. It is considered a snapshot of illegal activity on the roads. Over eighty percent of Maryland school bus drivers took part in the survey.
Governor Larry Hogan issued a proclamation declaring School Bus Safety week from October 22-26. The new survey results are being released as that observance is beginning.
School systems, bus drivers, and law enforcement have been raising awareness about stop arm violations for the past eight years.
Large systems with more buses and bus routes noted the most violators. Montgomery County tallied the most – 1038, followed closely by 677 witnessed by Baltimore County school bus drivers. This differs from last year when Baltimore County topped the survey, followed by Montgomery.
The MSDE survey this past spring was undertaken at the behest of a number of members of the Maryland General Assembly, which has been monitoring school bus safety. The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services is coordinating surveys of this type in all 50 States.

Franchot Announces Seizure of Contraband Alcohol in Baltimore
61 bottles of distilled spirits seized from business on 'The Block'
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Comptroller Peter Franchot announced that his Enforcement Bureau of the Field Enforcement Division made a significant seizure of contraband alcoholic beverages on October 11, at a Baltimore liquor licensed business with assistance from the Baltimore City Liquor Board Inspector and Baltimore City Vice Detectives.
“My Field Enforcement Division team is ever vigilant in its efforts to make sure all businesses are playing by the same rules,” Comptroller Franchot said. “I applaud their work and the assistance from the city liquor board and Baltimore police. These combined law enforcement efforts level the field for all businesses and protect Maryland’s consumers.”
On October 11, agents and inspectors from the Enforcement Bureau along with Baltimore City Liquor Board and Baltimore Police Department Vice Unit conducted an unannounced liquor inspection at Indulge Gentleman’s Club at 403 E. Baltimore St., located in an area known as “The Block.” The purpose of this routine liquor inspection was to assure compliance with state laws and regulations. The licensee is Donald Savoy of Don West Management, trading as “Indulge.”
During the inspection, 61 bottles of distilled spirits with a retail value of $1,332.85 were seized as products obtained from a supplier other than a wholesaler. In Maryland, a retailer may not purchase/keep an alcoholic beverage on the licensed premises which was purchased from other than a licensed wholesaler.
All details and evidence will be forwarded to the Baltimore City Liquor License Board located at 231 E. Baltimore St.by the Comptroller’s Enforcement Bureau to be used at the board’s discretion for administrative action and subsequent sanctions.
FED agents and inspectors conduct random routine inspections at licensed retailers of alcoholic beverages throughout the state to assure that Maryland’s alcoholic beverage laws are being followed. Liquor-licensed retailers can only be in possession of and sell alcoholic beverages that were supplied to them by a licensed Maryland wholesaler to assure that the alcohol excise tax has already been paid by the wholesaler who supplied the product to the retailer.

Why women check social media more than men
WASHINGTON — If you’re a social media holdout, you are an increasingly rare breed.
D.C.-based business news and how-to website The Manifest says 86 percent of Americans now use social media every day. Women are more likely than men to check in repeatedly throughout the day.
“This is definitely generally speaking and it is not true for all women or all men, but women tend to be more communicative in general, so it makes sense that they are on social media more often,” Kristen Herhold at The Manifest told WTOP.
“I know for me, I am always checking Instagram to see what my friends are up to, versus my boyfriend who goes on social media much less often, and it comes down to I have a lot more friends who are posting more often so there is more for me to see,” she said.

Avenatti's bad day: Evicted from office, ordered to pay $4.85M to former employee
Porn star lawyer Michael Avenatti suffered two court losses on Monday, including one that saw a judge order him to pay $4.85 million to a former lawyer who argued he was underpaid.
Shortly after that ruling from a California judge, another judge ruled that Avenatti and his staff must be evicted from their suite office at Fashion Island mall after they missed four months worth of rent payments.
In the first case, Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin said Avenatti had to personally pay the $4.85 million because he guaranteed a settlement with former employee, Jason Frank, the Associated Press reported.

We Went to a Trump Rally. Here’s the Stories Nobody Tells.
This week, The Daily Signal presents a special edition of “On the Street.” We traveled to Lebanon, Ohio, to attend a rally featuring President Donald Trump. While we were there, we talked with everyday Americans about the issues that matter and which of Trump’s accomplishments are most important to them.
“I like how he shows his faith,” one attendee told us. “I haven’t seen that in a leader in a very long time, but I love how he shows his faith and his love for God and his love for country.”
“He’s doing what he said he was going to do,” another supporter said. “Regardless, he’s trying to drain the swamp and that’s important. One thing he did, probably by getting elected, he showed us just how corrupt Washington was. I don’t think we knew that.”
We took our cameras “On the Street” to the Trump rally to find out this and more. Watch the whole video above.

100,000 Texans Camp Out 24 Hours Before Trump-Cruz Rally in Houston
President Donald Trump’s supporters began lining up and camping out 24 hours before Monday’s rally in Houston, Texas, which has received at least 100,000 signups for the 18,000-person venue.
Television crews arrived around 4:00 a.m. local time Monday outside of the venue where President Trump will speak Monday night. The Fox News reporter stated they had seen the line grow throughout the hours:
The television cameras could not fit the whole line in their view.
Officials told Fox News that 100,000 people have signed up for the rally where President Donald Trump will speak Monday night. The Toyota Center, the venue for the rally, has a capacity of 18,000. The reporter said those lining up were doing so in part to make sure “they could have as close a chance to get to President Trump as possible.”

REPORT: UN, SOROS BEHIND MIGRANT CARAVAN INVASION
This is how globalists plan to collapse Western civilization
A note from Alex Jones: This is 21st century warfare being carried out by multinational corporations and NGOs, organizing around the United Nations and quarterbacked by Soros-affiliated groups. It’s meant to break the will of the nation-state by opening up large migration routes from the third-world into the first-world as part of a neo-colonialism system. The multinational banks, NGOs and corporations want to use third-world populations as a tool to colonize the first world with third-world labor to drive down wages and create political instability which they can then control.
Third-world populations are exploding and are under increasing pressure by globalist forces. The developing world is in a pressure-cooker type scenario, and the UN and affiliated globalist groups are now “westernizing” these populations and turning them into political battering rams in an attempt to make the first-world, the western world, submit to multinational, corporate demands. This is 21st century warfare, and the nation will collapse by capitulating to it. It’s why Democrats are openly calling for no borders and the abolishment of ICE while orchestrating the very migrant hordes to invade using migration routes. This is an attack from the outside and treason from within.
The UN and billionaire globalist George Soros are the driving forces behind the massive migrant caravan marching to the U.S. southern border, according to reports.
As with the previous caravan that sprung up last spring, the open borders group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, which is connected to Soros’ Open Society Foundation, is involved with organizing the caravan of 4,000, and the leader of the group was arrested Thursday for attacking Mexican immigration agents.
The UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees has intervened in the situation to aid in the migrants’ travels.
“We’re in discussions. UNHCR is talking to the government to see how we can best help them,” said Sibylla Brodzinsky, a UN spokesperson. “This is just starting. Talks are happening.”

Savings - Not Tariffs - Will Make America Great Again
Glitches on the Road to MAGA
While the farcical Kavanaugh confirmation hearings dominated the news cycle for the past couple of weeks, little mention was made of a disturbing economic headline – the August US trade deficit. Despite all the bluster from the Trump Administration about “winning trade wars” and “trade wars are easy”, America’s trade imbalances for August were the highest ever and its deficit with its most contentious partner – China – reached an all-time high.

Bi-directional trade bazooka [PT]
Some highlights, or low lights, for the Trump Administration and the clueless economic nationalists were:
August imports of industrial supplies and materials ($49.7 billion) were the highest since December 2014 ($51.8 billion).
August imports of automobile vehicles, parts, and engines ($31.7 billion) were the highest on record.
August imports of other goods ($9.1 billion) were the highest on record.
August petroleum imports ($20.5 billion) were the highest since December 2014 ($23.6 billion).*

The Liberal Mob Must Be Stopped in November
Something has happened to the Democratic Party, something dramatic and awful. It wasn’t that long ago that the Democratic Party liked the United States, and its members weren’t afraid to say it. Now saying positive things about the country will get you run out of the party and possibly attacked by a mob. Their media minions will cheer it all. And, if things go as expected next month, these people could retake the House of Representatives. These people in power should scare everyone.
There is nothing they won’t do to win, no lie they won’t tell, and no norm they won’t obliterate. The last few days alone provided us with many examples to demonstrate this very thing.
This week saw liberals obsessed with the disappearance, and now we know murder, of Jamal Khashoggi. The obsession was not over how he was killed, despotic governments kill their citizens all the time and no one bats an eye, it was a combination of two things – his job and the opportunity to attack President Trump.
Khashoggi was billed as a journalist, but he was more of a columnist. Either way, if he had any other job you never would have heard his name. But journalists love stories about journalism the way Hollywood loves movies about the movie business. Add in the ability to blame his murder on the President’s criticism and you’ve got the perfect media storm. And Democrats were more than happy to jump on board.
First, let me just say that I don’t care. I know you’re not supposed to say this, but I’m not interested in lying to you. It’s sad that a man was murdered, but it happens all the time. No one’s profession makes them special. He wasn’t an American and it wasn’t in this country, so I don’t care.

No More Hope for Democrats
Over the next several weeks, Americans will be going to the polls in the most eagerly anticipated and consequential mid-term election in our nation’s history. Voters will decide whether to continue the President’s agenda which includes cutting regulations and taxes, boosting our military, renegotiating our trade deals, and focusing on border security.
This agenda has produced incredible economic results in less than two years. This week, the World Economic Forum rated the United States as the most competitive economy among the 140 countries ranked. This is the first time since 2008 that the United States has topped this important list. This report follows an amazing list of positive economic indicators in recent weeks. The United States is enjoying an incredibly low unemployment rate, robust economic growth, and stellar consumer and small business confidence. It is a great time to be living in our country.
In a usual election, the party responsible for such good economic times would have a tremendous lead in the polls. Unfortunately, in our country today, the Democrats are leading in generic congressional surveys and most pollsters predict a “blue wave” on November 6. According to the so-called experts, the real question is not whether the Democrats will win the mid-term elections, but what will be their margin of victory?

Gallup Confuses Terms in Poll Showing High Opposition to Assault Weapons Ban
57% still oppose new ban on AR-15s despite Gallup’s mixed use of terms
A new poll shows opposition to a ban on so-called assault weapons is near an all-time high despite the confused terminology it used.
The Gallup poll of 1,019 adults, conducted between October 1 and 10, found 57 percent of respondents opposed to banning semiautomatic guns that a number of states define as "assault weapons." Opposition to such a ban increased by 6 points since Gallup last asked about it a year ago. Forty percent said they support a ban.
The numbers are nearly the exact opposite from when Gallup first asked the question in 1996 when 57 percent indicated support while 42 percent indicated opposition. Opposition to a ban was at its highest in 2016 when 61 percent said they opposed it and 36 percent said they supported it.
The partisan divide is prevalent in the results with 56 percent of Democrats supporting a ban, support from independents at 38 percent, and only 25 percent of Republicans. There was also a clear divide between gun owners and nonowners. Forty-six percent of households without firearms support a ban while only 33 percent of those with a gun do.

Court Docs: Obama Admin Targeting of Businesses Ran to Top of FDIC
New court filings document the extent to which the Obama administration used government power to target disfavored industries, and subsequently sought to avoid responsibility for its targeting program.
The new information comes from a motion for summary judgement filed in federal court by the plaintiffs in Advance America et al. v. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. et al.
Advance America, a payday lender, was one of the firms targeted by Operation Choke Point. The company contends—and the documents it filed show—that the FDIC was consciously working to target a totally legal industry, and also at a number of points to deny its involvement in the same work.
Choke Point was an initiative under which the Obama administration tried to shut down disfavored industries by removing their access to payment processing and other banking services, thereby cutting off their financial "oxygen." They did so by applying pressure to third-party banks through the FDIC and other federal financial regulators. Targeted businesses were almost all entirely legal, and included ammunition sales, online gambling, and payday loans.
The FDIC has repeatedly denied that it specifically targeted payday lenders. FDIC chairman Martin Gruenberg told Congress in written testimony that targeting payday lenders was "not consistent with our policy," and claimed that the corporation had taken "a number of significant steps" to discourage targeting firms that were otherwise operating within the law.
