Worst Housing Markets In America

National home prices are expected to rise 1.7 percent from Q3 2012 - Q3 2013, according to Zillow's latest report.
But not all markets are experiencing a recovery. 191 metropolitan areas saw declines in home prices in the third quarter, up from 125 metros in the second quarter.
“We’re likely seeing home values fall back into the negative range in some markets due to the close of the traditional home-buying season,” said Zillow Chief Economist Stan Humphries in a press release.

YIKES: Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Survey Plunges To A 3-Year Low

The latest reading from the Kansas City Fed manufacturing survey is out.
The index plunged to -4 from 2 last month, missing expectations of a rise to 5.
That's the lowest reading in over three years, according to the report.
Tenth District manufacturing activity declined slightly in October, and producers' expectations for future activity fell considerably but remained slightly positive. Several producers commented on growing uncertainty related to the upcoming election and fiscal situation, which has put a hold on many customers' orders and spending. Price indexes were mixed, with minimal changes overall.

Aspirin Helps Colon Cancer Patients With DNA Defect

Regular use of aspirin may keep colon cancer from killing patients whose tumors contain a specific gene defect, according to a study that shows how modern gene science can guide use of old drugs.
Previous studies have suggested that regular aspirin use may help keep the disease from spreading. The new data, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, identifies a gene variation linked to the protective effect of aspirin.
Cancer researchers have been using gene tests to select patients likely to benefit from new medicines that target mutations driving tumor growth. The study released yesterday from researchers at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute shows the DNA test method can uncover the potential of other drugs to fight cancer.
“The data are very strong,” said Boris Pasche, chief of hematology and oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, who wrote an editorial accompanying the study, in a telephone interview. “It would be a big deal if these numbers are confirmed.”

Special Report: In The Land Of Gangster-Jihadists

(Reuters) - A military helicopter arced through the dusty yellow haze and dropped onto the sand a few kilometers from Timbuktu on April 24, settling inside a ring of Islamists armed with AK47s and anti-aircraft guns.
A general from neighboring Burkina Faso and a Swiss government aid worker emerged and joined an Islamist leader sheltering in a tent; they exchanged pleasantries over roast goat and cans of fruit juice. About an hour later, after the Swiss official and Islamist leader had spent five minutes alone in the helicopter, a pick-up truck arrived carrying Beatrice Stockly, a Swiss missionary who had been kidnapped nine days earlier.
"I don't know what they talked about, but soon after the Islamist left the helicopter, the hostage arrived," said a witness who was on the helicopter that whisked Stockly, who arrived wearing a veil, to freedom.
"The first thing that she did was remove the veil and eat a bar of Swiss chocolate."

Retired General Warns Of Social Security's Dum-Dum Bullet Purchases

Jerry Curry, a retired major general, has written an editorial on the purchase of ammo. I first met him in 1988 when he was working for Pat Robertson. He is no crackpot.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirms that it is purchasing 174 thousand rounds of hollow point bullets to be delivered to 41 locations in major cities across the U.S. No one has yet said what the purpose of these purchases is, though we are led to believe that they will be used only in an emergency to counteract and control civil unrest. Those against whom the hollow point bullets are to be used – those causing the civil unrest – must be American citizens; since the SSA has never been used overseas to help foreign countries maintain control of their citizens.
What would be the target of these 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets? It can’t simply be to control demonstrators or rioters. Hollow point bullets are so lethal that the Geneva Convention does not allow their use on the battle field in time of war. Hollow point bullets don’t just stop or hurt people, they penetrate the body, spread out, fragment and cause maximum damage to the body’s organs. Death often follows. . . .
All my life I’ve handled firearms. When a young boy growing up on my father’s farm in Pennsylvania Dad’s first rule of firearms training was, “Never point a gun at someone, in fun or otherwise, unless you intend to shoot them. If you shoot someone, shoot to kill.” I’ve never forgotten his admonition. It stayed with me through my Boy Scout training, when I enlisted in the army as a Private to fight in the Korea War, during my days as a Ranger and Paratrooper and throughout my thirty-four year military career.
If this were only a one time order of ammunition, it could easily be dismissed. But there is a pattern here. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has ordered 46,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition. Notice that all of these purchases are for the lethal hollow nose bullets. These bullets are not being purchased and stored for squirrel or coyote hunting. This is serious ammunition manufactured to be used for serious purposes.

GOVERNOR O'MALLEY SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER DECLARING STATE OF EMERGENCY IN MARYLAND

ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 26, 2012) – Governor Martin O’Malley this morning signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency for all Maryland counties as the State continues to monitor Hurricane Sandy and its potential impact. The declaration gives the state flexibility to activate the Maryland National Guard and provide assistance to local emergency managers.

"As Hurricane Sandy makes its way north, I urge all Maryland residents to prepare for extreme weather," said Governor O'Malley.  "I urge all Marylanders to review their family emergency plans, make sure their emergency supplies like batteries and water are fully stocked and to stay informed."

The declaration of a state of emergency (among other things):
  • requires the Director of MEMA to coordinate agencies’ activities to alleviate the emergency;
  • authorizes the deployment and use of resources covered under the State and local emergency plans;
  • authorizes the use or distribution of supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities that have been stockpiled or arranged to be made available in emergencies;
  • permits the Governor, if the Governor finds it necessary in order to protect the public health, welfare, or safety, to suspend the effect of statutes and regulations of the State (or localities);
  • activates the National Guard to provide assistance if necessary.

FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Officials Denied 3 Help Requests During Attack On Libya Consulate

Sources on the ground in Benghazi during the attack on the US consulate tell Fox News that CIA operatives twice asked for permission to help Ambassador Chris Stevens and his staff, and twice were told to 'stand down' -- while a later request for military backup was denied.

Bill Clinton Told Hillary To Resign, US Arming ‘Syrian Rebels’ With Ties To Al Queda

Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, came forward to “take responsibility overall” for the attacks  at Benghazi, but per Ed Klein we now know behind the scenes Bill Clinton advised his wife  to resign over the possible criminal fallout of the Benghazi massacre.  Today we learn fromsources  that not only did Hillary ask for added security, and was denied, but her closest advisers strongly suggested she seek legal counsel just days after the attack.  Why?  Why did “they” deny Hillary’s requests for added security to Benghazi, and  why is this a situation in which a Secretary of State would need personal legal counsel?  Could the Benghazi fallout, go beyond what a Public Relations firm can handle?  I’d say YES.  Could this be a criminal act, negligence,  dereliction of duty, which resulted in murder?  I’d  say YES.  And I’d say that Hillary is telling the truth as the “source” of these latest developments come straight from her “legal counsel”.   Hillary did prior to September 11th, 2012 order added security for Benghazi, and those requests were denied—but by who?

WISC. GAY GOP WORKER HOSPITALIZED IN POLITICALLY MOTIVATED ATTACK

Violent left-wing thuggery in Wisconsin is becoming a trend in the weeks leading up to November's presidential election. After the son of State Senator Neal Kedzie, Sean, was brutally beaten late last week, another individual with ties to a GOP politician has suffered a severe beating with explicitly political motivations.

Kyle Wood, an openly gay Republican working to elect Republican Chad Lee to Congress, was attacked in an apparent hate crime while getting ready for work in his home.

“I was getting ready for work and there was a knock at the door,” Wood emailed The Daily Caller late Wednesday. “I opened it, and a guy wrapped a ligature around my neck, slammed my head into the doorway, and smashed my face into a mirror, telling me ‘You should have kept your [f*******] mouth shut.’”

How The Government Spends Your Tax Dollars

The Presidential debate on foreign policy recently discussed much about the tax dollars spent on defense. The question of how much to spend on the defense of the United States is always a huge debate. Democrats tend to lean to the side of "Peace Through Diplomacy" and believe that too much is spent on defense. Conversely, Republicans tend to foster the idea of "Peace Through Strength" and want to continue to increase advances in military strength.
However, the conversation of how much we spend on defense brings up another question. Exactly where do all of our tax dollars go? The chart below is the 2011 Budget year of expenditures as a percentage of the total budget.

FRANKENSTORM Could Be The Worst Northeast Storm In 100 Years

Hurricane Sandy could merge with a second storm out of the midwest to become the worst Northeast storm in 100 years, described as a Frankenstorm.
National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Kocin tells Bloomberg: “What we’re seeing in some of our models is a storm at an intensity that we have not seen in this part of the country in the past century ... We’re not trying to hype it, this is what we’re seeing in some of our models. It may come in weaker.”
New York City Mayor Bloomberg has told residents in flood-prone areas to be prepared to evacuate before the storm hits around Tuesday of next week.

President Obama Backs Md's Same-Sex Marriage Measure

President Barack Obama on Thursday threw his support behind ballot measures in Maryland, Maine and Washington state that would legalize same-sex marriage.
Though the president first voiced his general approval for gay marriage in May, he had not previously offered specific endorsements of the three measures.
In each case, the endorsements were issued through the state branches of Obama's re-election campaign.

Maryland Has Big Problems, Businesses Are Moving

Gen X Was Clobbered By The Recession

Boomers and Gen X adults have swapped places on the retirement worry spectrum.
While boomers' anxiety has waned over the last few years, a new study by the Pew Research Center found more than half of Gen X are “not too” or “not at all” confident about retirement. Just a third of boomers echoed the sentiment.
It's a far cry from a similar survey three years ago, when only 19 percent of Gen X respondents said they weren't confident about retirement.
The reason is simple enough: Though much attention has been given to boomers whose nest eggs were pummeled by the recession, it was Gen X that saw their overall net worth fall the most.
"The median net worth of [Gen X] has fallen at a far greater rate than for any other age group both in the past 10 years and since the beginning of the Great Recession," the report says.
