Local Businesses (Khunn's & Robinson Jewelers) Skirting Governor Hogan's Law & Reopening Their Doors

"So I am officially in the mask business. Should have homemade stock really soon. The Maryland State Police ok’d my being open if I sell masks! We will practice social distancing and sanitize deeply. Also trying to get a supply of sanitizer."

PUBLISHERS NOTES: I don't know if I should be excited for these businesses (Khunn's Jewelers) or angry that they are slapping other struggling businesses in the face who remain closed. What's your thoughts?

Go for it.

Anonymous said...

I have no problem with them opening and wish others could come up with a "loophole" so they too could reopen. Everyone who works anywhere is ESSENTIAL and this is not debatable.

Anonymous said...

Two takeaways:

MSP are now apparently arbiters of who can be in biz or not.

If you're selling masks in addition to whatever we used to think your business was, you're good to go.

Anonymous said...

Everyone is essential. Imagine society coming together to tell a large group of people "We don't need you. You're not essential. You don't matter." Imagine tyranny. Imagine Germany in the 1930's.

Anonymous said...

I congratulate her on opening up. This sham lockdown has gone on for far too long. If you’re afraid stay home. Everyone back to work.

Anonymous said...

This business owner has suffered through YEARS of poorly managed street improvements in downtown area. Now she has been attacked by the State Government with draconian shut down orders.

I am glad she has survived and wish Kuhn’s all the best

Anonymous said...

Nope nope nope! I will not support a business that is essentially cheating. I have friends and neighbors who own businesses and they are following the rules. I respect people who put others first not their pocketbooks.

Anonymous said...

OK all small businesses, start selling face masks and sanitizer then you can open your doors too. What is good for one should be good for all. Not very fair if everyone cannot do this same thing.

Anonymous said...

Well that is certainly not true. Everyone who works at a business may be essential for that business to operate...but not every business is essential. Nail salons, tattoo parlors may offer excellent services but unfortunately their services are not essential to daily life. I personally don’t think people should be looking for loop holes. As a healthcare worker in the ER, I can tell you that I am ready for this to be over and the only way that can happen is for it to stop spreading from ppl not listening to the stay at home order. I am also tired of not seeing my family, quarantining from everyone because I worn around positive patients all day. But again, the only way it’ll stop is to STAY HOME!

Anonymous said...

Can the golf courses sell masks for say, $30? Then, allow you to explore their property, doing whatever you want :-)

Anonymous said...

12 30 you probable never been in her store she does not need your business

Anonymous said...

Screw Hogan. Everyone should open.

Anonymous said...

Don't call it Hogan's "law". Hogan can't make law any more than you or I can. It's more like Hogan's Power Grab.

Anonymous said...

12:30. Your friends and neighbors businesses are in jeopardy of not reopening at all. Private businesses can’t afford to remain closed.

Anonymous said...

This is when things start to get ugly...finding a loophole and opening under false pretenses. Fair is fair that same privledge should be given to all small businesses. Everyone should flood MSP with questions on how they too can get "okayed"

Anonymous said...

Well - every one - get creative - sell face masks. What's stopping you. I'm sure you can purchase at Sam's. BJs has them in boxes like kleenix. Not that expensive. Go for it. You could file a law suit turned down to open.

Anonymous said...

Selfish.

Anonymous said...

There you go Joe buy a mask get a free beer. I like it.

Anonymous said...

I applaud your ingenuity in getting reopened

Anonymous said...

Those masks should up more 75% of business to count - home improvement stores should be not open on weekends

Anonymous said...

There is a special protocol for the ELITE and supporters of Hogan, aka Hitler.

Anonymous said...

Yes!!!! If proper sanitization is used why not. Stop this goverment control over our own common sense decisions.

Anonymous said...

Hogan the Horrible doesn't make law. Only the legislature makes laws. Hogan's decree is unconstitutional.

Anonymous said...

Why would anyone begrudge any small business owner for wanting to open and get back to business? What's the difference you go to a big box store like Walmart and look at watches and jewelry or a smaller business like Kuhn's or Robinson's? The difference as I see it is a shopper has less of a chance of becoming infected if they shop in the smaller store. Same with clothing, why can people shop for clothes at Walmart why smaller locally owned clothing boutiques have to remain closed?

Anonymous said...

Joe, maybe you need to sell some masks and go ahead and open your establishment. With your outdoor seating and all you should be fine. But I do question HOW the MSP can tell her she can open when Hogan says NO.

Anonymous said...

Yes, if she/they do not open now, they will never open and will be long gone/doors closed. So sick and tired
of the Governor ....so sorry that I wasted my vote on him. Also so tired of the nurses going on and on how terrible it is when all I read anymore is the hospitals are empty and laying off their staff.

Anonymous said...

I have no problem with any business, including restaurants, opening. Those who don't like it don't have to patronize the establishment.
It's fair and that simple.

Anonymous said...

Who are you to say these businesses aren't putting others first. They are going to use proper sanitization. If they don't fight for their businesses, then who will. I don't need anything they sell right now. But I'm considering treating myself just to support OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for asking for thoughts Joe. Like all of us, thoughts do matter although we may not agree. Couldn't imagine living in a society where you do not have an opinion.

We are a capitalistic economic driven society - All for one, one for all!

We either open together or stay closed together. In-between, have's/have not's doesn't work.

Anonymous said...

Well, if she can sell over-priced jewelry in this day and time - go for it.

Rebel Without a Clue said...

Yes, inquiring minds want to know!!

PUBLISHERS NOTES: I don't know if I should be excited for these businesses (Khunn's Jewelers) or angry that they are slapping other struggling businesses in the face who remain closed. What's your thoughts?

------

Exactly, Joe! They should take one with the rest of the team!

I've got a feeling that they may be able to do some business but it won't pay to keep their doors open. Who needs jewelry right now? Where are they going to go?? Most people are staying home and going out for their essentials like food only.

Anonymous said...

Go for it. Props to her for finding a loophole. She got screwed by the city government and probably wasn't going to stand still for the federal government to do the same.

Anonymous said...

Gotta use that PPP money somehow, might as well have your employees come in to work.

If it takes re-configuring your business to open than so be it, some people might want a diamond encrusted face mask.

Anonymous said...

If you can open and keep your customers and staff safe do so. I understand the frustration that restaurants and bars are feeling but that is the business they chose to be in and I am sure if you could figure away to open you would also.

Anonymous said...

Buy a $400 dollar mask get a free necklace. Love it when a business Owner figures out a way to keep on trucking.

Anonymous said...

Small self employed businesses do not qualify for government checks, I know because we have checked. So we have had to close with no support.

Anonymous said...

12:30. It’s clear you’ve never worked in the private sector. Keep living in lala land.

Anonymous said...

Robinsons at least sold t-shirts so masks weren't a stretch.

But a jewelery store? Come on. And she is open already? But says she'll have stock soon? So she's not even selling masks today.

Anonymous said...

John Robinson is a total A hole
The one time I went to him was with a problem with my clock and he told me I was shit out of luck!

Hope the feds go after him.
Arrogant jerk!

It may not be about “their pocketbooks” as much as you think. Some people have businesses to provide a service to the public. Just as the people making the designer masks, theses “masks” That are in no way protective against ANY virus. It is all for show and to fill “their pocketbooks”. So please step down from your self righteous high horse and respect other people’s right to pursue happiness. Btw...#TRUMP2020

12:30: That is becasue you, your friends and neighbors are uneducated, know nothing of the laws and what is legal or illegal, and that makes you, your friends and neighbors, salves for following a suggestion not a law!!!!! Just becasue you have corrupt pieces of shit cops who get off on hurting people in anyway, does not make it law... Just becasue you have coward cops who "JUST FOLLOW ORDERS" does not make it law!!!!

Think about this, the cops are refusing to go to minor crimes, they are letting people out of prison early, and even letting people who should not be out, they let them out, but will try to lock you up like they did to that woman in a park, while there were like 20 other people there, even in the cops face but the cop didn't mess with them, WHY??? Then in the "NAME OF SAFETY FOR KIDS" they took the mom to jail and left the kids alone, had it not been for the other people being there to help take care of those kids, god knows what would have happened to those kids left alone!!!! But I guess to you and the ass cheek sucking cop lovers, that make this cop a hero right????? I have video proof The cops even said the mask orders are not lawful, but you go ahead and still follow the rules you good little slave!!!!

Yes it's REAL hard living off of daddy's estate

Anonymous said...

I disagree. Tattoo parlors can be essential to some. Getting a tat where it may not be your thing or priority or like can be cathartic for some people! I absolutely love hearing the buzz and feeling the needle. It takes my mind to another place and helps settle me. And I believe there are others who feel the same. I for 1 am tired of being told how to live. If you're afraid of the Virus that has taken less lives than last years flu and don't want to build immunity and antibodies, then by all means continue to do your part. But it's not fair to the rest of us who follow guidelines and want our lives back. Want to be able to go to work and see people.

Anonymous said...

How about being able to live and support their families? Not everyone is getting help from the Government and when this is over and all those back payments are due the next month, are you going to take them in? You are being selfish. It's not all about someone's pocketbook but ability to live their life.

Anonymous said...

It cannot be stopped. People need to get back to living.

Anonymous said...

That's right, this bullshit has gone on long enough.

Anonymous said...

It think it is great news. Lets get back to work everybody. She is one smart cookie. Sounds like some are jealous they didn't think of it.

Anonymous said...

Walmart has an advantage on most businesses because they sell food.

Anonymous said...

YES !!! why not, fresh air is great to clear the mind.

Anonymous said...

I applaud businesses who retooled to make PPE products to help out. However this undermines all of the healthcare workers. What is she retooling? She is just finding a loophole to help her pocket book. So I guess every store can just make a few masks and reopen? That is BS and hurts everyone else who is making sacrifices. Do I like to stay at home....no. But if it saves one person from getting COVID19 and dying I say it’s worth it. Maybe the one person it helps is your husband, wife, mother, father etc. I’d say it would be worth’s it.

Good don't step foot in that store. They won't miss you that's for sure. Your character is majorly flawed. Repeat MAJORLY FLAWED. She is not cheating Don't be asinine It only shows you are stupid too as well as you friends and family business owners who were too dumb to think of this. She is selling masks. Put you money where your mouth is and don't dare step foot in a Walmart etc. They sell food which is essential but anyone can go in and buy anything else they want to. If you were such a principled person you would be on Walmart sites raising holy hell But just like many all you do it talk the talk and have sunk so low in life you don't walk the walk

No mask alone is protective against the virus. There are required to be worn not so YOU don't catch it but so some without symptoms who don't know they have it doesn't spread it.

Now that they are opening , maybe the car washes can open if they sanitize the interior of cars , just a thought .
If you think about it the car washes that have drive-in washes have no contact with anyone . Good ole government rules who don't have a clue , Adolf Hogans Heroes .

Anonymous said...

I am sure no matter what she does is a desperate measure. The Khunn's fortune has long been made none of them are starving.

Anonymous said...

12:35. You state you are a healthcare worker in the ER. Then you should know that we cannot stop it from spreading. We were told to flatten the curve which was accomplished. Everyone will be exposed eventually. Do you want it now or when we are in a depression?

Anonymous said...

I so agree they need to stay closed. It's not time to reopen and numbers are still going up. People are stupid of they think opening their businesses is safe for their employees and for their customers. They need to be fined and shut down!

Anonymous said...

How come someone can go in Walmart, Sam's Club and buy nothing but a piece of jewelry and it's okay? It's a hell of a lot easier to keep that little jewelry store sanitized then a big store. And people can stay further away from each other as well.

Anonymous said...

Tattoo parlors?

Not essential for the majority.
Does it help you to eat or breathe (necessities for life)?

No.

Ice cream absolutely can take one's mind to another place, helping one settle.

Tattoo parlors? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

She might want to check with the governor’s office.
Sheriff Lewes May come knocking at her door. Just who did she talk to at MSP.
A random friend?
It doesn’t pass the smell test.
Whether you believe small businesses should be open or not....all small businesses should be treated the same.
It appears she thinks she should not have to abide by the rules. I would like to know if she got one of those small business loans.

Every small business is essential to the businesses owners family , and employees , ok practice safe distancing, common sense , sanitize the public area , my wife and I have owned a business in Berlin for twenty years , if you do not feel safe coming in , don’t , but no one has the right to deny us our livelihood. Why are we so quick to give up our freedoms ?

Some people have businesses to launder money?

Anonymous said...

unfortunately there will always be people who try to take advantage of any situation. bottom feeders like kuhn's and robinson's are two of them. Their few employees are part timers so they are not doing it for them. so why would I want to patronize a business that takes advantage of situations/people? if you would rather deal with someone who is fair and honest, wait and go to Kyle Edwards Jewelry. they are reputable and will do you solid! and you will have supported someone who is fair and honest!

Anonymous said...

Was she hurt by Salisbury’s downtown construction? Didn’t she make a commercial saying she moved temporarily until downtown Salisbury was complete? Didn’t she then go sell her downtown building privately? Does she get privileges because this town makes her feel privileged? My experience with Kuhns? I purchased from them a named designer ring to find out later it was a standard non designer ring purchased from a China manufacturer. In addition I later found out that one of the diamonds was cracked. Have at it Kuhns, you cant hide behind your “masks”.

Anonymous said...

Is there something that forced her to stay downtown if she was suffering so horribly? My you are sooooo dramatic!

Anonymous said...

Blah blah blah blah blah. Where did all of that come from? I hope you don’t talk that much all of the time. You must have a good supply of excedrin.

Yes the SbyPolice went to Robinson’s. They were cited for operating during pandemic, not wearing masks, not having proper taped off spots and allowing more than 10 people in the store. I know because I was there and they listed me as a witness. I had on a mask.

Anonymous said...

Robinson is a crook! I ordered an item and had to pay up front. When it came it was not what I expected and was VERY thin and Cheap. He would not refund my money or let me exchange it. I am done with his store!
As for Kuhns...........she should also have to abide by the rules. Just because she is Susan Purnell does not make her any different than anyone else! Jewelry is NOT essential period! Oh and niether are clocks, and junk in Robinsons

Anonymous said...

There is no doubt this “pandemic” COVID-19, Chinese virus or whatever label you want to assign it, unfortunately, has become much more political than medical. When we start judging businesses and people as to how they are dealing and responding to the situation in manner that is critical, judgmental, and condescending towards those businesses and people is damn scary. To say the least, the people that are expressing all the criticism are definitively not people if given a choice, that I want to be around.

Anonymous said...

John Robinson, biggest crook in Salisbury. I had some silver coins to sell. Got four estimates. Robinson's price wasn't even close to the other three. I'll never go back to him and his arrogant attitude!
