Shore hospitals to admit out-of-area COVID-19 patients

EASTON — As the most populous counties in Maryland continue to house more than 90% of the state’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, rural Eastern Shore hospitals with remaining surge capacity have stepped up to accommodate inundated hospitals’ patient overflow.

University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton is among the Shore’s hospitals that have admitted COVID-19 patients from the western shore of Maryland, Talbot County Health Officer Dr. Fredia Wadley confirmed in an email Wednesday, April 22.

Trena Williamson, a spokesperson for Shore Regional Health, declined to say from which jurisdictions the patients came or how many the rural hospitals expect to take in.

If I had COVID 19 and lived in western MD, I would be afraid to come to the shore. They might kill me! That's why anyone with something serious goes from here to there. East to west, across the bridge.

Whoa, I dont know folks...Ya better clear it with the "Beach" crowd in OC.They may not want THOSE people too close to them, and THEIR beach!...Just saying..."High Desert Dawg"

Keep them on the Western Shore. Don't bring this contamination on the Shore. What is Hogan allowing this when there is a stay at home order? Another lame excuse of a Governor.

Whoa, ya better run that by the "Beach" crowd in OC. I'm not too sure they'll approve of that. They dont tame too kindly to "Non-residents" walking on their hallowed ground!....just saying

That statement is an insult to EVERY American citizen that has given their life & limbs defending our US CONSTITUTION! Have YOU made yourself the "Self annointed" one? What if one of your loved ones was in dire straights, and needed to come to you? Would you turn your back on THEM? Disgraceful, and an insult to those that have defended our rights & freedoms!!! I pray you, and though its apparent you care nothing for OTHERS rights & freedoms, I will still defend yours

PRMC is taking in Delaware's overflow & they aren't even mandated to wear masks when in retail stores etc.

Nothing in the article was about overflowing VA hospitals or even veterans for matter. Why state things that are not relevant to the article?

Mask are a joke anyway. You have been brain washed 5:08

What? I was replying to YOUR comment, to the article. The CONSTITUTION is the relevant issue, but apparently that lil piece of paper doesn't mean much to you. In that constitution we are granted RIGHTS & FREEDOMS...apparently something else you either dont understand, or dont care about, unless of course YOUR rights are effected! One of those rights, is the right to travel AT WILL within the state, as well as interstate travel. Feel free to review that lil peice of paper...unless you've also deemed "yourself" to be above that as well! The RELEVANCE of my entire reply is the fact that OUR government has been slowly "etching" away at these God Given rigjts for decades, and they are now using this pandemic, that though is very serious, to take away more of our rights. It should Never impinge on our freedoms! YOUR fears DONT negate OUR rights. If I have to explain why...Go ask a mother or father that have lost a loved one in their defense of FREEDOM! I would be glad to introduce you to some...just saying..."High Desert" Dawg
