The Army’s Next Attack Helicopter Could Look Like This

After spending much of the past decade almost exclusively building and developing tiltrotor aircraft for the U.S. military, Bell is returning to its roots, pitching the U.S. Army a traditional helicopter for attack and reconnaissance missions.

The Textron company on Tuesday unveiled the Bell 360 Invictus, with a sporty-looking, new design that executives say is based on existing commercial technology, keeping it cheap to fly and maintain.

“If you need … and can afford a Corvette, do you go buy a Ferrari,” Jeffrey Schloesser, executive Bell’s vice president of strategic pursuits, said during a briefing in Arlington, Virginia. “This is not a truck. This is a high-speed, agile aircraft at an affordable price that meets all the requirements from the U.S. Army.”

Bell is one of five teams building prototypes for the Army, which wants to replace the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter it retired in 2014. The Army is calling its next-gen helicopter the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft, or FARA.

We need a replacement for our out dated air combat air fleet due to age and parts are not cheap to make. With this new make and S-97 Skyraider and Valor designs with new hardware and software upgrades coming in near future.

Old skool is the best. You can fire rockets and at a one G turn. This new junk doesn’t allow it. Ridiculous. Fly with your gut or don’t fly.

WE need this
WE need more than this
WE need more war
WE need more killing.

Wait a minute, do "WE" really benefit in any way from these weapons?
Isn't this getting a bit like cheering for an NFL Team?
Silly.

Let me help you with this, 6:02.

Nobody likes or wants war. But there are bad people in this world who will do bad things to good people, whether they want it or not.

We haven't had a war on our soil for a l-o-n-g time.

Here is the reason-- the bad guys know that we have everything we need to make them completely disappear in a few moments if they start anything with us. And I can assure you that what we have is way better than anything they or their friends have.

So they don't start anything. They'll talk, they'll huff and puff, they'll do head fakes, but no missiles, bombers or troops.

So we DO need this stuff. It assures everybody that anybody who starts anything with the United States is going to have a very bad day.

The word is "deterrence."
