Wicomico Goes Purple

Wicomico will be Going Purple in September, which is National Recovery Month. Wicomico Goes Purple, a collaboration between the Wicomico County Opioid Intervention Team and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, strives to initiate conversations about the dangers of substance misuse and abuse and encourages our community to take a stand against it. The Wicomico Goes Purple campaign will focus on prevention, treatment and recovery resources available throughout our community and will also emphasize the important role that law enforcement plays in combating this epidemic.

Wicomico Goes Purple has a goal of promoting conversations about substance misuse- ones that also include prescription medications. The community can get involved by decorating your home, storefront or business. You can buy a t-shirt at the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce or attend one of the numerous events that will take place during the month of September. For additional information and resources, please visit wicomicogoespurple.com

The Wicomico Goes Purple campaign will kick-off on International Overdose Awareness Day, which is Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, MD. Pregame activities will start at 6:30pm and the game will start promptly at 7:05pm. Wicomico County Health Officer, Lori Brewster will share important information and Wicomico County Executive, Bob Culver will throw out the first pitch. Also, be sure to stick around for the post-game fireworks sponsored by Hudson Health Services in Salisbury. Resource tables and information will be available at the event.

So think about this - the counties lighting up purple to show their support to help JUNKIES - but what about the people (victims) who have lost their loved ones because of a junkie! What does this say to them? Oh so sorry that the perp was high when he hit your murdered your dad! He wasn't thinking clearly but we are here to help him out!

Exactly. I have no sympathy for these drug addicts. This is selective reduction of the inmates at the insane assylum.
