Rep. Harris Announces Nearly $50,000 Award for Worcester County Board of Education

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, July 23rd, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded the Board of Education in Worcester County, MD $49,392 for the Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries (APP) program in the First Congressional District of Maryland. The funds will be allocated to Worcester County Public Schools’ twelve libraries. According to IMLS, “Year one of the project will focus on working with stakeholders to develop the strategic plan. The second year of the project will focus on implementing recommendations, developing the curriculum for the school libraries, and providing professional development to the school librarians. At the end of the project, the school system will have a clearly defined vision of a 21st century school library, and school librarians will have the training and resources to meet the needs of the students.”

Rep. Harris made the following statement on the education award:

“School libraries are an important part of our educational system in the First District. As a member of the Education subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I am excited to see these funds awarded to local school libraries to benefit our community and students in Worcester County.”

Libraries - Interesting. I have always been under the impression that students today used their cell phones, ebooks, and computers. I guess those who can't afford a computer could use the Library's. It must be an election year for Rep Harris to come up with any monies let alone less than 50,000 for all of Worcester county libraries.

Harris is up for reelection. He is Republican. I feel that he should be reelected. Interesting though how politicians serve their district during election year.
