Very sad to see this, but someone needs to share this with all of the J1 kids - in their home countries the bicycle is often the preferred mode of transportation, but here in the USA it will always be a car, and they really need to be mindful of that

We were in Bethany on the 5th visiting relatives who are one block back from the dunes. We left at late dusk and it was a scary drive for a number of blocks creeping along as pedestrians walked all over the streets without the slightest bit of attention. Included parents not tending small kids. And bicyclists without lights or markers, singly or in groups. It is a wonder that there are not multiple fatalities daily.

Really a bad situation, and city changes to their street made it much worse creating a total blindspot of both pedestrians on the sidewalk and traffic on the street.

Sad but bottom line bicycles do NOT belong on the roads and streets anymore-PERIOD. Kids okay like in a cul de sac but NO on the vast majority of public streets and roads. This is not debatable. So don't even try. Just as much as its the fault of the motorists it turns out to be the fault of the bicyclist as well. So they die and just as bad as they have potentially ruined the life of the person who hit them though no fault of their own. And if it is the fault of the motorist that does you know good when you end up six feet under and leave a family in shambles or end up a diaper wearing vegetable completely dependent on someone to do everything for you. A human is no match for a vehicle no matter all that nonsense paraphernalia "safety" things like helmets these bicyclists swear by.

He is right. Same for joggers. Who can't expect motorist to see you if you dart into traffic or cross the road without be looking.
