New Mexico police investigating vandalism of rainbow crosswalk as possible hate crime

New Mexico police are investigating an incident in which motorcyclists reportedly vandalized a freshly painted rainbow crosswalk made to honor Pride Month.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is investigating the vandalism, which left tire marks from “burnouts” and ruined the $30,000 crosswalk, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Video posted online shows dozens of bikers riding over the crosswalk in the middle of town, with one rider blowing out his tire and walking his bike to the curb.

“The facts will determine the appropriate charges, including whether damages amount to misdemeanor or felony charges,” police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos told the newspaper. “City crews attempted to clean the crosswalks today. It is not yet clear whether some portions will need to be re-striped.”

Who was stupid enough to piss away $30,000.00 painting a crosswalk?

Whoever spent $30,000.00 on a rainbow crosswalk is the one who needs to be arrested. Hopefully no taxpayer funds were involved.

I'm sure it was a painter friend of a council member with a kick back.

Paint remover could do a great job on stupid rainbows painted on streets. Just pour it on as you walk past it.

Real crime hidden in plain sight.
The perps are so arrogant, they don't realize they have exposed themselves by asking for media exposure of the event.

The burnouts are free entertainment

5:35 Then everyone that drove across it would have paint damage on their vehicle. Not a well thought out solution

It is a hate crime. No brainiac needed here. And I agree with the vandals.

Aren't all crimes "hate crimes?"

$30,000.00 must have been a union job.

Wish Jake the fake would worry more about the pot holes in all the streets of Salisbury, and less about his queer rainbow crosswalks and the likes. Doesn't he get it??? The people of Salisbury and Wicomico county do not want his homo advertisement plastered all over our city. It's disgraceful and embarrassing.
