Federal officials warn about food bad for dog's heart

Dog owners beware: Federal health officials are warning about food that's bad for a dog's heart.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced last summer that it was investigating more than 500 reported cases of canine dilated cardiomyopathy beginning in 2018. The disease can often result in congestive heart failure.

On Thursday, the FDA released the names of the 16 food brands that were most frequently identified in the cases. The 16 brands are as follows:
  • Acana
  • Zignature
  • Taste of the Wild
  • 4Health
  • Earthborn Holistic
  • Blue Buffalo
  • Nature's Domain
  • Fromm
  • Merrick
  • California Natural
  • Natural Balance
  • Orijen
  • Nature's Variety
  • NutriSource
  • Nutro
  • Rachael Ray Nutrish

Why?

FDA involved with Dog food? Dogs die all the time of heart failure, cross breeding is not their friend.

I bet the study was paid for by a company NOT on that list.

This list seems to be composed of higher end dog foods, free of the fillers many common dogs foods have. Sounds like Ol Roy (or as my vet would say, the Mcdonalds of dog food) has the FDA in his back pocket.

I tried blue Buffalo once for my Corgi. I had to take her to vet because she had bloody stools. Vet advised us to immediately stop using Blue Buffalo. We have had her on Science since and have never had a problem.

My GS eats 4Health cause that's the only one that agreed with his stomach. He isn't displaying any of the symptoms of CHF. No loss of energy. No coughing. What do I feed him now??

So what should I feed my pup(she's really 8 years old)?

Dogs have been eating Purina Dog Chow for over 50 years and I never heard any of them complain.

Tried giving my fog the blue Buffalo as well and she wouldn't even touch it until she was starving and then it was hit and miss

Our golden has been on orijen from day 1 and we couldn’t be any happier with it. He’s 12 and in perfect health switched our husky to it before he passed and he never had any more skin issues that he had while in science diet...dogs aren’t made to digest grain.

Are you not capable of using your brain and figuring it out for yourself? You could start but not feeding them anything on the list lol.

We used to call that stuff Ol runs. It gave my dog the trots.
