Middle school reduces bad behavior dramatically with 'reverse suspensions' that invite parents to school when students misbehave

Joe
Could you see this being implemented at Wi-Middle?

Administrators at one West Virginia middle school have introduced a new disciplinary alternative to traditional suspension that they believe could be more effective in reforming troubled students.

At Huntington East Middle School, non-violent, non-verbally abusive behavior is handled by offering parents the option of a “reverse suspension."

In a reverse suspension, instead of sending a child home, the student's parent is invited to come to school and spend the entire day by his side.

"When we started combining schools we had a lot of kids getting in trouble and getting suspended," school parent partner Stephanie Powell told WOWK-TV.

Very good idea but no, I cannot see Salisbury doing anything positive like this at all. It just might work you know.

This was done ON PURPOSE from OBAMA to cause Race issues in schools and CHAOS .... PAID FOR BY SOROS.

The parents of these little hoodlums wouldn't show up. They are the reason their brats are like they are.

No

Bring back CORPRAL punishment.

If it is a kid's first time getting in trouble this could maybe work. For the ghetto trash of Salisbury all you would have is a disruptive parent along with a disruptive "student"

Might work with conscientious and caring parents but not with the ones who come drunk and give you the finger after they break their crack pipe in the school parking lot.

Dear readers,

This exact approach was quietly attempted by a few administrators in Wicomico county some time ago. When Dr Handy learned of it, she put a stop to it. Unfortunately, there are some of us still around that remember when she did the same thing, but she was never challenged on it by her superiors, and in some of those circles, it was lauded as a way to combat a growing problem. Unfortunately, I don’t see this working for Wicomico for a few reasons:

1.) Parents cannot be required to come to the school and stay all day. They will refuse and would rather have their child home than actively parent them

2.) A large number of the parents who have such unruly children are at the very least a catalyst for chaos, and at the worst are truly dangerous. This could simply result in pouring gasoline on a fire. Imagine school staff routinely calling the police to deal with the parents of these miscreants who are attacking each other, the children of each other, and staff.

There are many other issues regarding bringing parents to school, not the least of which is a school security issue. As we have all seen a number of school shootings over the years, imagine what happens when an already unstable element is invited into the schools.

To be sure this would be a very bad idea. The solution? A colatition of parents, students, civic leaders and school officials need to mount a coordinated campaign to repeal the Obama era directives. Only by doing so as a community to address the issue, will it be solved. The school system cannot do this as they are under mandate by elected leaders, and appointed memebers placed in key position by the elected leaders.

Regards,

Paladin.
