Florence Set to Become 'Extremely Dangerous' Storm

Tropical Storm Florence is expected to grow into an "extremely dangerous" hurricane by Monday as it approaches the US East Coast, the National Hurricane Center said, urging residents to make preparations.

"Florence is forecast to rapidly strengthen to a major hurricane by Monday, and is expected to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane through Thursday," the NHC said in an advisory issued at 11:00am (1500 GMT) Sunday.

The states of North and South Carolina and Virginia have already issued emergency declarations to help speed preparations.

"This storm is too powerful and its path is too uncertain to take any chances," South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said in issuing his state's emergency declaration.

The US navy has ordered ships at its Hampton Roads, Virginia base to put to sea, saying "the forecasted destructive winds and tidal surge are too great to keep the ships in port."

Could be the strongest hurricane since Hazel in the 1950s to make landfall in NC. I'm supposed to be down in Hatteras on the 23rd...going to check my rental info to make sure I did pay for rental insurance. Stay safe everyone.

Leave cancelled. Good thing I'm 2000 miles away from the boat.

Prepare now because it is heading more toward us. Unfortunately we are due.

A giant amoeba ready to swallow the East Coast.

No we are NOT due. Unfortunately it looks like the Top Sail/North Topo Sail/Camp Lejune NC area. Pray for that entire area!

Will Bounce off Hatteras, and stall and die out, or bounce off Hatteras and go out to sea.
But on the lighter note. People will have enough Food, Water, and TP to last till the first Snow storm scare.
It's The Weather channels Christmas. Hype, and get lots of advertising to pay the bills..

I love watching Stephanie Abrams on the weather channel- especially during hurricanes. She makes watching weather fun!
But we'll know when to leave OC when Mike Seidel shows up. Or worse, Jim Cantore. I walked out to the beach last night around 7.
I was getting pushed around and this was a left-over storm. The water was up to the dunes and waves were easily 10-12 feet.
