West Virginia calls in National Guard to tackle opioid crisis

People expect to see the Army National Guard during disasters.

In Huntington, W.V., the guard has been called in to help tackle the opioid crisis – which the governor has called a disaster.

“We have to stop this terrible drug epidemic,” West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said. “We have to. If we don't, it will cannibalize us."

Huntington has been called the overdose capital of American – with double the national average of overdoses, due in part to the decline of the coal industry, a lack of jobs and the easy availability of the drugs. And law enforcement is stretched thin.

“I don't think there is a police department in America that has all the resources they need,” Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial said. “It is a complex problem and it needed a complex solution."

Man this country is so naive. You'd have to arrest all of congress first then go from there. I think your local wonder boy azar had a lot to do with this problem

Shoot the dealers and the addicts. Bunch of slack-jawed losers. Grow a backbone, quit popping pills and contribute to society instead of leeching off of it.

There is no way to stop the military from importing heroin into this Country.
No way.
There is just too much money involved.

Putting the military (no matter what kind) on American streets to help enforce the law is a disaster waiting to happen.
I guarantee there will be no ammunition in their rifles.....officers with sidearms, but no PFC is going to get a chance to shoot a 15 year old kid.
Guaranteed.
What are they trying to do? Get Americans used to seeing uniformed soldiers on the streets, like some Mexican shantytown?
6:10 got it right.
Perfectly.
Keep cheering.
