Son of a veteran marched 100 miles to D.C. to inspire support for military service members

For two days, a group of patriotic young men will hike more than 100 miles each to bring in an effort to raise inspire patriotism and support for military members.

Known as "Freedom Ruck," the event will see Victor Wise, the son of a retired Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, and his friends make a massive trek across northern Virginia. The event starts at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond. From there, the group will travel north along U.S. Route 1 with American flags in tow until they reach Arlington National Cemetery, just south of the Washington, D.C.

"The goal of Freedom Ruck is to simply say thank you. We try to lead by example and inspire folks to stand behind these heroes and their families. Our hope is to rally the public to take action. Our servicemen and women deserve to know how much we appreciate what they do," said Wise in a statement on the event's website.

So what exactly is a "ruck?"
