Lawmakers Urge Funding to Keep Aging A-10 Aircraft Flying

Twenty lawmakers are urging colleagues to fund repairs for the Air Force's aging A-10 aircraft in any budget agreement for the 2018 fiscal year, the Washington Examiner reported.

The 1970s-era aircraft have been used to go after Islamic State fighters. However, about 110 of the planes, are now in need of wing replacements, estimated to cost about $103 million, according to the website.

The repairs were included in the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Donald Trump. However, Congress has been unable to reach an agreement to fund the annual defense bill, the Examiner noted.

Earlier this year, the Air Force announced it planned to maintain the majority of the A-10 aircraft, commonly known as the Warthog.

The A-10’s GAU-8- 30mm gun, at 3,900 rounds per minute 'sparks panic' in ISIS fighters.

I love this airplane.

So do our ground forces.

It works. Don't trade it for a mega-$$$ piece of junk. We don't need fancy.. what we need is what we already have-- BRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTT in the right place at the right time.

they need engines to, so wait and see after the wings are paid for they'll come back in a year or two, three tops asking for new engines! jobs program. yup lets see I can launch a cruise missile from anywhere in the world, hit em with a loaded drone. nope we'll send in the cowboys and let light em up with a cannon while flying close to the ground. nothing to see here folks, move along!

give me a break. in this day and age sending piloted aircraft into enemy territory is ill advised. One needs to have control of the skies before sending in this type of aircraft. so under powered can only make strafing runs after dropping all it's ordinance! a kid sitting in langely can do just as much with less chance of loss with a drone!

Actually, the 30mm cannon came first and the entire airframe was built around that, with a titanium "bathtub" for the pilot to sit in with real protection, It's one tough airplane.
