All Food Is Gone! Violence Erupts On Caribbean Island Of St. Martin

Hurricane Irma ravaged the Caribbean islands last week and wiped entire islands off the map. Now that the food and water have been scavenged from every grocery store on St. Martin, people are resorting to violence.

The people obviously started with the grocery stores, scavenging what they needed for sustenance; water, crackers, and fruit. But according to the New York Times, by nightfall on Thursday, what had been a search for food took a more menacing turn, as groups of people (some of whom were armed), swooped in and violently took anything of value that was left. Things like electronics, appliances, and vehicles were all stolen.

The social fabric has begun to fray now that people are without the most basic of essentials: food and water.

There's no food or water so I'll just go loot a few things like electronics, appliances and maybe a new car.

Where are the French and the Dutch?

The island is owned by both the French and the Dutch. the whole island is the size of Ocean City, Md.(+/- 35 sq. mi.) Between those 2 countries they can't take care of their half of the island ?

If you read the article you would find there are/were Americans on that island. As I'm sure there are Americans on other islands as well. Regardless, they are ALL human beings. A fact that I think is lost on most people.

Better make islands SAFE again for tourists OR they will be
Afraid to come back .....esp on Cruise Ships !!!!

I have visited St Maarten and we were told not to venture off of the resort at night. The interior of the island reminded me of Baltimore with the same type of inhabitants. I was amazed to see armed guards at ordinary businesses such as supermarkets and autozone.I can only imagine the chaos there now and also my wallet was stolen but returned without any cash while we were on the beach.Hawaii is much much better!

Sorry.
Americans have their own big problems with that storm.
Take care of AMERICAN families first.

Americans here at home first! No need to help others when there are thousands right here in America that need it. Death is part of life, they were warned to leave, if you stayed you died, so that is part of Gods plan, culling the herd.

Hence the need to never be without Guns & Ammo (no, not the magazine).
