A Viewer Writes: Salisbury Zoo Wallaby's Enclosure

How long does it take to build an enclosure for Wallaby's? 2 years? 3 years? And in the meantime they are still living in a over sized dog like kennel hidden in the back of the zoo by the Administration building. The owls are prisoners in a dog kennel that is only 4-5 feet high. They are stuck perched on a branch in the kennel. How long are they going to be subjected to this inhumane treatment? 2 years? 3 years?

Why do we even have Wallabys if we do not have a suitable habitat for them to live in?

Why are they fund raising for the owls when the Wallaby habitat has not even been built?

WTH is going on over there? Really? Is no one accountable? Does anyone there care??

My tax dollars pay for this, I would like some answers.

Someone needs to be held responsible for this horrible treatment of animals. This is abuse period!!!!! The city can waste all that money on stupid festivals and such, why can they not make our city park a showpiece. If this is the way the park manager is running our city park then he needs to be replaced with someone with animal compassion and pride.

We can do better than what we are providing to these animals. Can the City Park apply for grants just like others in the city like the Sheriffs Dept? At least try for it.

This zoo has long looked like some road side menagerie. I am surprised there's not a dancing chicken in a coin operated machine and a two headed calf.

Poor quality Keepers = poor quality work.

I remember when the Oliphant family donated a baby Elephant. Poor little Ollie didn't last long the ignorant locals fed him chewing gum and ciggie butts and gravel off the ground. The same folks that were shocked the monkeys were so bored all they did was pleasure themselves. Then there was the worker caught having relations with one of the burrows. That poor great cat paced itself to death. Way back they had these mangy balding bears that looked like old rugs. It has never been a very cheery place and that's not to mention what was well known to go on in the Bamboo thrushes.

I hate walking in there with their subpar tiny enclosures. The buffalo are living on 10+ years of the same piss and shit soil. Barely a speck of grass. Ever see buffalo in the wild in the fields. No sand. Grass.

Whats the point of this. Have we not evolved past this ignorance of staring at animals living a life time in tiny cages? No one is being educated there. We just stroll past them, gracing these animals with our 2 minute pause to stare at them. Why?

This community is ridiculous. Back woods ignorant.
