Trump declines invitation to speak at NAACP convention

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump has declined an invitation to address the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Wednesday.

The White House did not offer any details on why Trump would not speak to the 108-year-old civil rights group.

"My understanding is that the invitation has been declined for this year," Sanders told reporters at a briefing.

She said that while Trump would not speak at the conference, the White House would be happy to have a dialogue with the group.

Wise decision. It could only be a carnival for the LibPress.

The organization in its title alone is racist: National Association of Colored People.
Can you imagine the lawsuits if any white person called an african American "Colored" today!

Can't believe the NAACP is still in existence. What has the organization done to advance Colored People? I believe they prefer not to be identified that way; talk about an outdated and outlived its usefulness effort.

Lets be honest it would be a lose lose situation for Trump... no matter what he said or
Did he would be wrong .. smart move by Trump to decline!

Are we really surprised?

As long as he also turns down the invitation for speaking at the NAAWP meeting - oh wait, there isn't one because it would be racist!

They didn't invite him to speak or to hear anything he might say.
They invited him so they could make another spectacle -- have idiots shout obscenities from the audience, ask blatantly aggressive "gotcha" questions, allow some of their "leaders" to grandstand, and to make him wade through groups of "protesters" (protesting what??).
They are fading into history and are not much more now than a whining, ineffective, money sucking machine still playing the victim routine.
It's not working as well as it used to.....

8:10 the NAAWP is called American History lol

?? 9:04, Really ???
it says - would not speak at the conference, the White House would be happy to have a dialogue with the group. Communication is still open and invited!

Good! It would be like walking into a den of thieves. They would come at him with all kind of gotcha questions and then like the thieves they are steal President Trump's words and twist them into what they want others to hear. The NAACP is NOT ever to be trusted and the president is smart and knows their true motives which are always sinister when it comes to the GOP.

Other President's have also declined in the past. NOTHING new, NOTHING to see here!

Personally, I believe its time we invite the President back to the eastern shore...it has been way over a year - so an invite would be in tune!!!!

Good grief...Baltimore? He would have to bring our military home from everywhere to cover that war zone. Good decision, great play, fantastic move. Thank you Mr. President.

NAACP National Association (for the) Advancement of Colored People. Maybe the President would consider a meeting with your organization if you actually did anything for the advancement of colored people. For example.....finding solutions to stop "colored" men from killing each other. Teaching "colored" women to take birth control, stay in school and get a job, instead of depending on welfare and tax refunds. And the list goes on and on. Good decision on the President's part NOT to attend, for whatever reason.

8:10 doesn't get it.

I always accept invitations from groups that are suing me! Wait, what?

President Trump has work to do and shouldn't waste time on this nonsense from a non relevant group

FYI: In order to enter the NAACP convention, a GOVERNMENT ISSUED PHOTO ID is required......NAACP says it is racist to require one for voting but not to attend the convention.
Who says you can't have it both ways?

Good for Trump! The way the NAACP has treated him since becoming a candidate for president and beyond, after he was a loyal supporter for decades, they don't deserve his presence. 246 is correct, you do need a photo ID like a driver's license to enter their convention. How's that for hypocrisy?
