Park police warn of ‘Drano bombs’ in Montgomery Co. park

WASHINGTON — Authorities in Montgomery County have alerted the public after discovering two rudimentary homemade explosive devices along a park trail in Germantown, Maryland.

The so-called “Drano bombs” consist of water, drain cleanser and aluminum foil sealed in a 12-ounce plastic water bottle. The chemical reaction creates hydrogen gas, which can cause an explosion.

The explosive materials were found along the Clarksburg Heights Trail in Little Seneca Greenway Stream Valley Park on May 16, according to the Montgomery County division of the Maryland National Capital Park Police.

What if a child picks this thing up? I can see my Grandson picking up trash on a trail bike ride. What is wrong with this forsaken world?

"Bomb". Just goes to show how little common sense is left in the world. These are NOT bombs. The reaction releases gas (hydrogen) that expands the plastic container until the container fails. The result is an audible popping sound. There is no ignition of the gas or any type of fireball. This is little more than a childs prank. A burning paper bag of dog poo is more dangerous. Now all you are chair idiots are gonna start with your "what if" baloney. Let me save you the time. Shove it.

You are incorrect 7:52. These types of bombs which describes all types of explosives have been around for decades. The 'what ifs' are real. While an intern on rotation in the ER I treated a young person who suffered multiple injuries caused by one of these. It caused injury to his both corneas and he was blinded in one eye as a result and severe chemical burns to his face, chest and arms.

As a physician you are by default an expert on what is and is not regarded as a bomb? Must be comforting to kmow that MD conveys expertise in everything.

Back in the mid 90s my high school science teacher did this out on the football field. We probably made 100 of them that the summer lol.
