Eyewitness Shares Account Of Fatal Pedestrian Accident In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY – A man who performed lifesaving efforts on a pedestrian killed along Coastal Highway during last weekend’s Cruisin’ Ocean City event described scene of the fatal accident.

Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) officers and EMS personnel responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of 45th Street and Coastal Highway at 2:24 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, the pedestrian, identified as James R. Ednie, 23, of Kelton, Pa., was crossing Coastal Highway from west to east when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling northbound. Ednie did not use a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The OCPD said nearby witnesses initiated lifesaving efforts before police and EMS arrived at the scene. Ednie was transported to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

I was down there with my girlfriend, and saw allot of people jumping into moving traffic screaming at drivers to burn out...very poor judgement, and very dangerous as noted in this article..

Wall/barrier would not have helped. People (under ANY influence) would try to climb/jump over. Its human nature.

Truly there is NO cure for stupidity (ala playing frogger in traffic)!

Let's stand in the median of a multilane highway while drunk and encourage impaired drivers to perform burnouts around 2:30 am. Sounds reasonable to me. First of many for the 2017 season.

The cops were arresting people for doing it but then were getting yelled at by you for harassment.

We were down there the entire weekend, and didn't see one spectator get arrested. Cops were too busy walking in and out of traffic, issuing citations for seat belts and window tint.

Let's just assume that after midnight every guest on the streets in O.C. is impaired, whether driving or walking.

This is social darwinism at its finest. Let the stub and criminal die. What's will be smart, decent people.

Hopefully Tony will testify in the driver's behalf at his trial.

The man driving was arrested for homicide because he hit a drunk standing in the road? This will be a difficult case to prove because the intent wasn't there. It was just a case of bad timing by having alcohol in his system and being on the road behind the wheel. He didn't cause the accident and I pray he gets off.
