WICOMICO PUBLIC LIBRARIES ANNOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL SALISBURY BOOK FESTIVAL

Wicomico Public Libraries is excited to announce their first annual Salisbury Book Festival, a 2-month series of fun, family friendly events, inspiring children and adults to read.

The Salisbury Book Festival includes the April 20, 2017 – 8:00 am - Light of Literacy Awards Breakfast, to be held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. This event recognizes those in the community who advance the cause of literacy. The Keynote speaker will be Mr. Peter Franchot, Maryland Comptroller. Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased at any Library branch or online at www.lightofliteracy.org

Other events for the Salisbury Book Festival include:

April 20 – May 20, 2017 - Ernie Bond Memorial Book Drive. Drop off boxes will be available in multiple locations throughout Wicomico County. The Library will be collecting new & gently used books and donations. Books will be distributed to children through local non-profits and the public schools. Monetary donations will be accepted at Wicomico Public Libraries.

April 22, 2017 – 8:30 am – 3:30 pm – SU Children’s and Young Adult Literature Festival which will be held on the campus of Salisbury University. The event will celebrate the memory of Dr. Ernie Bond and will feature ten authors and illustrators, three discussion panels, and the presentation of the inaugural Sonia Lynn Sadler Diverse Illustrator Award. Registration fee and registration is required.

April 22 & 23 – Barnes & Noble Book Fair – benefits the Ernie Bond Memorial Book Drive.

May 2017 - Salisbury Reads – A Community Reads program encouraging everyone to read and discuss the same book. Limited free copies available from all Wicomico Public Libraries locations. The 2017 Title is – The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.

May 20, 2017 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm - Book Lovin’ Block Party – Free, one-day fair in Downtown Salisbury. Find out all the fun that you can have reading. Includes storytelling, celebrity readers, performers, animals, craft & book vendors, authors, publishers, food, and a virtual reality experience.

Wicomico Public Libraries are located in Downtown Salisbury, the Centre at Salisbury, in Pittsville, and the Library Bookmobile. Wicomico Public Libraries offer numerous resources such as free Internet access, a variety of classes and events, and an online eBooks library, and it engages the community through education, economic development and through various community events. Do any of you guys here that JMB principal is going to be Assistant Superintendent of WCBOE... Same thing happened with Parkside High Principal Mr.Stauffer a couple years ago when the rape at Parkside and he got an desk job... Basically Shows that when the public speaks up change comes and shows that Briggs lacked the stamina of being Principal Of JMB

I know your sentiment. Briggs is an awesome principal. It is the BOE and the Super with their heads up their rears. Briggs will be missed. I can't imagine the horrors he faced day in and day out and the madhouse the board calls JMB

Unfortunately, libraries, like everything else are becoming obsolete. ( a place for homeless in the winter) They will need to significantly transform their use, in order to remain relevant.
