New Video Released; Questions Surround Motorcade’s Role In Fatal Wreck

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Questions persist about a congressional motorcade that investigators say led to a deadly crash on a busy Maryland interstate Wednesday morning.

U.S. Capitol Police will not release the names of the powerful senators who were traveling to a retreat, causing a dump truck to slam into one of the drivers who stopped for the senator’s motorcade on Interstate 70.

Now there are concerns about whether the motorcade itself was needed, and whether it created a dangerous situation.

New video shows Democratic senators leaving the Capitol on two buses during Wednesday morning rush hour. The VIP motorcade was surrounded by a U.S. Capitol Police detail.

That happened at the I70/270 "mixing bowl".. one of the most dangerous places in Maryland (besides Salisbury). It's very scary driving through there, even when there's no motorcade..

Have had the pleasure several times to view outside standing (DC) as well as being in a car of passing motorcades (route 50 going to the Cambridge Hyatt Regency for a Democrat retreat several times during Obama's administration, route 50 between I97 and bay bridge - Gov Ehrlich's entourage).

Lets just say there is absolutely no speed limit rules!!!

I'm surprised it took this long for a major accident...that was reported of course.

10:40 AM speaks the truth. It's not exactly a marvel of engineering. It may have been okay twenty years ago, but the population density around there has tripled the traffic.

Im more interested in why the cabal of democratic marxist commie party members needed to meet and plot? Nothing good will come from that twisted evil horde of micreets.

I also would mention, the part where you merge onto I-70 from 100, or 29, always is backed up for nothing, no constitution no accidents, nothing... Just people being stupid or rubber necking...

So this was not official government business but a Democratic group of Senators who felt they are so important, ranking with the President, that they required a police escort and motorcade to go basically on a vacation? This is wrong on too many levels. They are acting like elitist who are above the citizens they represent. And they wonder wide eyed why they are losing left and right.

Look, have some sympathy for the democrat senators, okay? They are an endangered species and, with a little luck, just might be extinct in the near future.

Another example of the Washington Establishment thinking they are privileged and deserving of special accommodation. It will likely take another election cycle or two before they heed the message that voters are sending them.

While the Dems had their retreat, the Republicans were meeting/retreating in Philadelphia.

The Dump Truck driver was clearly at fault. The Motorcade did absolutely nothing wrong and had nothing to do with this accident! I'm not even a Democrat and I am defending them. Why is this even an issue??

If you watch the video you will clearly see there were flames way before the truck got to the intersection. That truck driver would have killed someone regardless if it was a motorcade, funeral procession or someone waiting to merge.

As a Republican tax payer I have no problem with this. This is what we elected them to do and it is to conduct business for this country. Retreats are done with every elected branch of government. Get over it.

We can only hope so.

The I270-I70 interchange was designed and approved by idiots. Interstate traffic is reduced to a crawl as the drivers must merge and shift lanes in the middle of the lanes instead of creating overpasses or underpasses that would allow them to merge from the side.

And what authority do the Capital Police have to operate a motorcade outside of DC?
