Joe,
Somewhat related to this post, but separate issue here.
I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but there has been a considerable string of thefts from vehicles in the Salisbury area; the latest being the Village of Aydelotte Townhome community. Several cars (Locked as well as unlocked) were broken into in the early hours of this past Sunday morning (August 28th). Some vehicles were parked in the street, some in driveways and one was even parked behind a home. Mainly wallets, change and personal belongings were stolen. When the Salisbury police arrived to investigate, they mentioned to the victims that there have been over 200 victims in a recent spree of thefts from vehicles where thieves would hit several vehicles in a single area. They issued ONE incidence number (#2016000042214) to the event as a whole in lieu of each individual victim. Personally, I believe that if there were several separate victims then there should be several separate incidents numbers. Seems to me that combining each individual victim into one incident number is a means to skew the crime stats to make Salisbury "look" better than what it truly is.
All that aside, the main concern I have is that if there has been a string of similar crimes in our area shouldn't somebody be reporting on it??? I checked all of the local news outlets and the SPD press releases and got NOTHING at all. To me, awareness can be a very good means of prevention. Perhaps if SPD, WBOC, the Daily Times or WMDT put something out that said "hey, people are breaking into cars so you might want to keep an eye out and make sure your vehicles are locked" then perhaps we'd have less victims and we might even catch these scumbags. Petty crimes like this turn in to larger crimes like B&E, home invasions and vehicle theft is it isn't dealt with properly. But I guess since it doesn't have something to do with the yuppies trying to revitalize downtown Salisbury then it isn't newsworthy... #GettingTheHellOutOfSalisburySoon!
