A Message From The Marion Fire Department Chief

As most citizens of our community are aware, on Monday June 27th, a local business was destroyed by fire.

I would like to thank all of the community that came together during this major incident at Chesapeake Boat and Lumber Yard. 100 fire and ems personnel and 50 pieces of apparatus from 18 companies in Somerset, Worcester, Wicomico, and Accomack Counties were on the scene of this massive blaze.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of these personnel, along with the law enforcement agencies, State Highway Administration, The Red Cross, and all of those businesses and individuals in our community and communities as far out as Dorchester County for bringing & serving foods, drinks and ice.

I wish that I could thank you by name, but there are too many to name and I would hate to leave anyone out, as we appreciate ALL of you! Your support was well needed, and it is groups of people like yourselves that make our jobs a little easier in wake of an emergency. On behalf of every fire and ems provider serving on this incident, we THANK YOU, and are always here to protect and serve our community. We do this with great pride!

Chief David Evans, Sr

Marion Fire Department, Sta.3

I'm listening to the radio and Wicomico Central just alerted Stations 1, 16 and 6 Parsonsburg for smoke in a residences. When Engine 16-1 responded Central told them that it was a pot on the stove and the "fire is out."

Since when did they start alerting 3 stations for "smoke in the residence" as if it was a real structure fire? WTH is going on in this county????

6:40 you are an @$$. Your comment has absolutely nothing to do with the article.
Chief Evans I was not at the fire, but the pictures I saw and a couple of firefighters that I talk to, you did one hell of a job, no one got hurt

Now to 6:40's comment you have no clue how the fire department works. Smoke (visible) in a structure means that something is actually burning or getting very close to burning versus an odor of smoke which doesn't necessarily mean that something is actually burning .
Three companies if not more on a structural fire should be standard response in all counties on the Eastern shore
