A few days ago I read your DT article regarding how Wicomico ended up with a residential sprinkler ordinance that requires all new homes to be equipped with a residential sprinkler system.
After reading your article - I clearly recognized that you were not able to articulate who is to blame. You see - when HB-366/SB-602 went to a House vote - (HB-366) - our entire eastern shore Delegation voted against the sprinkler ordinance - with the exception of eastern shore Delegate Norman Conway - (who voted in favor of the sprinkler ordinance). And then - when the sprinkler ordinance legislation went to the Senate floor - (SB-602) - once again, the entire eastern shore Delegation voted against the measure - with the exception of eastern shore Senator Jim Mathias - (who voted in favor of the sprinkler ordinance). Rudy Cane - recorded an absent vote.
But what really gets me - is that the ordinance still did not have to get enacted because the last person who had the authority to repeal the House/Senate action was our illustrious Governor - Martin O' Malley - (who is now running to try and be our nations President). He could very well have vetoed the legislation.
So now - I ask you - what are you going to do to help shine some 'sanitizing light' on the subject - so that the general public will be made aware as to what actually transpired.
I sincerely hope that you will approach The Daily Times Editor & advisory staff - and convey your new found knowledge so as to help try and hold those public officials accountable.
I truly believe that an Article 'Redo' is in order.

Joe - this is a very good article. I hope the NAACP officials are reading Sbynews because if they are, they will probably never vote for another Democrat ever again.
Now people can see what Norman Conway did while he was in Annapolis. Now if we can just get the people to see what Jim Mathias is doing to our people on the eastern shore maybe we can remedy this problem to.
Thank you Joe for disclosing how this sprinkler law was enacted. The sprinkler law and the Wicomico County school impact fee has killed new home building in this county. Take a ride up to Delaware to see new homes being built.
Mathias will be out in the next election. Maybe working at Royal Plus or Ocean Downs.

The Democrats have destroyed any chances for the middle class ever being able to afford single family housing. I agree what the first poster said about the NAACP never voting for a democrat again. The residential sprinkler issue was an easy one for the average american working middle class to decipher. Just look at the Maryland General Assembly vote hyperlink. It says it all. Both, Jim Mathias and Norman Conway are out of touch with our residents.
Norman, being a volunteer fireman for years, knew how devastating a fire can be.
Fires don't usually happen in new construction. Maybe norm should have required older homes with old wiring and heat systems to have sprinklers... Not new ones.
Wow, and to think that the democrats prow to be on the working class side? Their actions speak louder than their words. Good riddance to Conway, and, I will be looking to replace Jim Mathias.
Between the $5,250 impact fee, $10,000 septic tank, and $10,000 residential sprinkler system, I'll have to take out a second mortgage just to finance the permitting. Seriously, this ain't good - by any stretch of the imagination.
Delaware, they don't call it the diamond state for nothing. It is truly a jewel when you look at the bigger picture.

Well, I guess that settles who was behind the smoking gun. None other than Jim Mathias and Norm Conway.
Even if The DT doesn't redo the article, SBYNEWS has clarified the subject and made it plain and clear as to who was responsible. That's better than the Benghazi investigation - as everyone is blaming everyone else.
From the description of this burdensome ordinance, it sounds to me like black lives don't matter.
They don't. Neither do police lives. None of our lives matter when it comes to making a dollar for the government to spend.

This State has the most hostile regulatory environment ever created by any legislature.
Talk about racial barriers - the sprinkler ordinance is one prime example of how Maryland government has built another 'wall' so high that it puts home ownership out of reach of not only the minorities - but also many young college grads. What-a-shame.
Taxes, impact fees, flush tax, rain tax, you name it Maryland has it - and then some. What a mess to have to contend with. So sad.
