Wicomico County Sheriff Speaks on War on Law Enforcement

"We'll fight you to the death". If you're running from call to call to call, why hasn't the PRESS been informed on how busy the Sheriff's Department is. We certainly don't get such a volume of press releases proving that to be a fact. No disrespect Mike but you're acting like a liberal leader using scare tactics.

Mike Why isnt the wcso doing more car stops. Ie road blocks and licence cks in the bad areas.

Will the real Mike Lewis please stand up!
Cause he's slim shady ,the real slim shady.

Please don't encourage nazi tactics. And seriously? Setting up a DUI checkpoint in the hood? Man as much as it is 100% a Mike Lewis special..... We both know its profiling with no ifs ands or buts about it. How about making our highly paid officers from the sheriff's office and the SPD get their asses out there and beat feet? Walk. Hard for the criminal elements to see a walking cop. But a car can be seen from a mile away. Plus they could maybe form a relationship with the community. Get excersise that's needed and save fuel cost. So many benefits from walking a beat.

We stand with Sheriff Lewis and the law enforcement community.

People need to wake up and support our law enforcement. I support them 100%. If we didnt have the police, can you imagine how it would be out here. It would be chaotic. Much more than it is now. Police do alot of good things for us ,but nobody wants to see that. Grow up people and get a little common sense. Not alot of that out here right now. My dad use to be Chief of Police years ago and I know there is more good cops out here than not.

I don't know. Who knows. I do know that there is a complete breakdown of morals within our society. Whether we like it or not, there is always going to be someone in authority who is due respect. It starts with respecting our parents and our elders. Then it's our teachers and law enforcement. It then expands to our bosses and managers and for some judges in the justice system.
Too many people expect LE to now act as social workers. It's not their job nor is it in their scope of expertise. I expect that an officer always remain professional but I also would like to see those they encounter act with civility. And acting with civility isn't just your demeanor. It's in ever way you present yourself. If you are going to dress like a gang banger and talk like you have never been out of the ghetto you are trying to look like a bad arse and very well may be a bad arse so an officer has to treat you as such until he is sure you are harmless. That is common sense. If you present yourself and act like a hood rat don't expect to be treated with kid gloves as would an elderly lady.

No. Shooting deaths of officers are actually down 13 percent compared with the same January-to-September period in 2014. There were 30 shootings last year and 26 this year. Those figures include state and local officers, as well as federal agents. The figures also include two accidental shootings, Groeninger said. Suicides are not included.

Anonymous said...

I heard that also 5:33 but what about other intentional causes of death and assaults involving officers? The number I am more interested in is the actual number of officers deaths and near deaths (on duty) like the one who was beaten in TX recently that were intentionally caused by someone else not limited to but including shootings.
To me time flies so it may have been last year but I'm sure I read about one being stabbed to death somewhere.
Just because they didn't die doesn't mean they still aren't under siege.

Way to go sherrif Lewis!

if you dont believe that the police around here are busy, turn on the police scanner for a few minutes. you'd be shocked at how much is going on, right here on the little ol' Delmarva shore...

most of which never gets reported...

I also support our police agencies and pray for all their safety. Frankly, I am proud that they would and do risk their lives to keep each of us safe. I don't know anyone else except firemen that would do that for complete strangers, many sadly are too ungrateful.

My belief is if you haven't done anything wrong, why run from the police when they ask you to stop???? All people want respect. I was taught that respect isn't given freely, an individual must earn another person's respect. Simple manners, and how you present yourselves to the world says a great deal about an individual.

This isn't the wild, wild, west, and thank GOD our policing agencies are there and do a great job.

So, why the hush- hush on reporting crime? Why don't we know? Why are call reports not available to the press, including this one that everyone reads? Why no press releases? Is shoplifting 5 times a week all the crime we have?

I guess because of that, the only thing happening in the community all the people getting arrested are going to jail just because LEO's are mean people.

All those getting shot are innocents just getting it because LEO's are mean? After all, there's absolutely nothing reported by law enforcement that would possibly justify all these arrests besides 5 measly shoplifters a week.

Gee, Mike, why do you think people are getting upset with LEO's?

Hundreds of Flash bangs in baby cribs, SWAT raids on wrong addresses, Shooting people running away and killing them, cops shooting 7 year olds with toy guns.

And we get 5 shoplifters a week reports.

But we should just sit back and hope tonight the cops don't get the wrong address at MY HOUSE?????

F-U, Mike, your words are nothing less than bait for all out war, and Law Enforcement is starting it using TOOLS like you!

Well I guess YOU will have to do your own research and maybe you can find whatever it is you're looking for.

The crap that police like lewis, and his under-informed bootlickers, swear to are lies, misinformation and fear tactics.

Kops and pols are two professions that are not only expected to lie, allowed to lie but also given a free pass when caught. And being an elected servant lewis has a double dose.

WTH does he know about any siege anyway? He's not in the area doing any police work and relies on what others tell him. Are you going to tell your boss you sat around all day? NO. You will telling him you are working hard, with no breaks. lol.

How some of you can worship that when you are thrown to the wolves and your money taken is beyond me.

I'm not condoning ANYONE getting killed, but I don't lose much sleep when kops kill 50x more than they get killed. I know that will ruffle some feathers, but you have to open your eyes to what is REALLY going on and not walking around with your eyes wide shut.

In the United States, the perception of truth often means more than truth itself. While the conservative media lies to blame the Black Lives Matter movement for the tragic shooting deaths of police officers, the mainstream media is rushing to cover what appears to be a dramatic increase in gun violence against police officers.
Except, this isn't true. Our country is on pace to have fewer officers shot and killed while on duty this year than last year (and almost any year on record for that matter).

Often, people who are sympathetic to police will quote that 83 police have died in the line of duty in 2015. And that is true, but what they aren't telling you is that 13 of those officers had heart attacks or that 19 died in car accidents or that three died because of 9/11-related illnesses.

A total of 26 police officers have been shot and killed in the line of duty this year. Each of those is tragic and a reflection of the violence in our country. This, though, is not some race-based dramatic uptick in police shooting deaths. Forty-seven officers were shot and killed in 2014 and we are on pace to have fewer than that this year. Comparatively, 662 people have been shot and killed by police in America as of September 1 and a total of 792 people have been killed by police altogether this year.

Some siege.

This means absolutely nothing unless and until we know which were deemed to be justified.
Also it would be helpful for you if you knew what the word siege meant. Please look it up to prevent further embarrassment to yourself. It has nothing to do with being killed.
Next time you comment I want you to use the word siege properly in 3 sentences before you comment anything else.

No. You think you do. Half of the ones you speak of are sick of the government overreach. They can fend for themselves and hope they don't cross my path with their crap.

If that comment under his picture is true...hell he be County Executive as well as Sheriff!!! Good job Mike you haters are the thugs whose asses your department bust on a regular basis!!! Continue to speak your mind and take down the law breakers.

LOL 6:11 I got you! You have love it when imbeciles are proved wrong and they can't face it so they come back at you with some inane asinine comment that they think is clever.

When the cops in Baltimore had the bricks throw at them, they were under siege.
The police found themselves under siege when the angry protesters surrounded their vehicle.
The department store had such a great sale, that it was under siege with all the eager shoppers.

See Einstein, while siege can mean death or injury the word is not limited to those actions.
