Three American Heroes in Paris Motivated By Their Christian Faith

In addition to their military training, what motivated the Americans on a Paris-bound train to leap up and overwhelm an armed terrorist last week?

According to stories in The Sacramento Bee and The Gospel Herald (compiled here), these young men are grounded in the Christian faith.

“They’re all Christians, they’re all very religious.” Peter Skarlatos, the brother of Alek Skarlato told the Sacramento Bee.

Sadler is the son of a Baptist pastor in Sacramento, California. All three young men were childhood friends who attended California’s Freedom Christian School together and regularly played military games in their youth, according to the Gospel Herald.

Airman Stone was stabbed “multiple times” in the back and severed a tendon and nerve on his hand, according to the AP. El Khazzani drew his pistol and put it to Airman Stone’s head and pulled the trigger twice.

“But it clicked twice and didn’t go off,” Airman Stone’s mother, Joyce Eskel, said later, according to news reports.

If that's what they were motivated by, so be it. Less religious Christians and those of any other religion that promotes decency would have done the same if they saw the injustice.

I would be motivated by my hate for Muslims myself, kill them all and let God sort them out!

I am not surprised they were Christians. Most Americans are Christians to some degree or the other and belong to one of the many denominations. I doubt they gave a second thought to their religion in that moment of danger.

If one or more of them had been killed their parents and church leaders would be singing a different tune. I am glad they were not killed and were successful doing what any decent capable American would have done, Christian or not.

Can we please get rid of the ridiculous religious dogma nonsense. How about being motivated to live?

For those of you who keep trying to minimize the role their faith played in this..

In the few seconds they had to decide what to do, I guarantee you that their knowledge of where they would end up if they died trying to stop the gunman MADE THE DIFFERENCE in whether or not they would risk being killed.

To the true believer, the knowledge of God's hand on their life influences everything they do.

To those who don't want to hear about it.. why are you reading this post?

Just move on. You won't believe the truth when you see it anyway.

These men just knew that this Muslim nut had to be stopped, God and Country had nothing to do with it.

My thoughts exactly., BTW, that is what the Abbot of Citeaux Arnaud Amalric was told by Pope Innocent III when he asked how to distinguish the Cathars from the Catholics at Béziers.
