Harry Hughes' Grandson Convicted For Heroin Possession

Andrew White of Denton pled guilty in June to possession of heroin and received a flat sentence of 18 months to serve. White also pled guilty to obtaining property worth over $500 from a vulnerable adult, stemming from the theft of well over $100,000 from his grandfather, former Maryland Governor Harry Hughes of Denton over the course of several years, mostly through ATM withdrawals. White used the stolen funds to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of heroin per day for personal use from Byron Drummond and his associates. On the vulnerable adult charge, White received a sentence of 10 years to the Division of Corrections, with all but 18 months suspended, to be served consecutively to the 18 months imposed in the heroin case and five years of supervised probation. Restitution was handled by a civil agreement outside of the criminal case.

Governor Hughes requested that his grandson receive a fully suspended sentence or probation before judgment, but the States Attorney respectfully declined. “We generally try to accommodate the victim’s wishes in a theft case, but in this situation the large amount of money that was stolen literally funded the growth of the Drummond organization. Because Mr. White paid top dollar in cash for his heroin on a daily basis, Drummond was able to extend credit to new customers, selling more and more heroin and ultimately expanding the misery of heroin addiction throughout the county.”

Sounds right to me.

I wonder if this is why Comptroller Peter Franchot recently visited Harry at his home?

The Governor needs to stop enabling this grandson. He has been troubled for years. This is an example of unconditional love by Gov. Hughes.

The SA was absolutely correct in this case for many reasons. It would have been wrong to not punish this individual.

Why is this sad? Because the grandson never got an asswhooping from Harry or daddy?? If so he wouldn't be the criminal that he is.

This guy is nothing but a menace to society. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.

He has a rap sheet as long and many black thugs. Well, maybe not that long, but it is pretty long for a white guy.

He has been coddled all his life and gotten off on most of his charges because of who his grand daddy is.

Now he has lost custody of his children for good.

Sad thing for him is his wife must have cheated on him because he requested a DNA test. Very sad. Why is it that women are quick to cheat on men. I can't trust any woman.

We can only hope that he gets the help he so desperately needs.

Enabling is not unconditional love. Enabling means you don't love the person at all. It means you could care less what they are doing because you can't be bothered making hard choices because they will interfere with your own comfortable life.

9:37-Enabling and unconditioned love do not go hand in hand.
An enabler is someone who can't be bothered to help someone for whatever reason. This isn't love. It is the complete opposite. It means that person doesn't matter to you and that is not love by anyone's stretch of the imagination.

Hughes is a jerk for wanting a suspended sentence. The addict would only be out robbing others to pay for his habit.
Maybe just maybe the months away will dry him out.

@ 10:37 if i was his wife i would hope it isn't his. Could have some bad blood if it is and why would anyone marry such a loser anyway?

So does this mean Governor Harry Hughes just gave about $50,000 to the Taliban that is where the dope originated i'll bet

Oh please. Stop with the poor Hughes this poor Hughes that nonsense.
His legacy is now how he contributed to the degradation of Caroline and surrounding counties. Even after being told of how his grandson was spending the money he continued writing him checks.
Hughes like a typical democrat too stupid to do anything else other than throw money at the problem. He basically was financing the drug operation which was then able to expand thanks to Hughes.
He didn't love nor does he love his grandson. He wasn't taking the temporary easy way out, again the typical democrat solution.
He's a pathetic old man who deserves no sympathy. His own actions were despicable.

Yep Hughes is your typical democrat. Doesn't care about his own flesh and blood much less anyone else's.
He did enable his grandson to become a hopeless addict as well as other people by what amounted to financing the heroin ring.
He did stop allowing the grandson ATM access after being notified by authorities, but within the very next few days was writing checks according to various media reports.
Hughes should be rotting in prison himself for his actions.

Harry Hughes and Joe Tydings are responsible for the liberal cesspool that Maryland has become. They greased the skids for the likes of Glendenning and O'Malley in Annapolis, nor to mention Mike Miller, and Mikulski and Cardin in the Senate and Sarbanes, Van Hollen, Hoyer, Cummings and Edwards in the House, as well as the liberal loonies in the General Assembly and the judiciary.

Sounds like a local judge's son and he takes it out on the poor defendants that appear in his court.
