County budget not end of salary debate

Money for employee salary increases was not included in Worcester County’s 2016 budget, but that doesn’t mean the discussion is over for teachers.

County employees, on the other hand, have little choice but to grin and bear it. Like the board of education employees, county workers also operate on a step system. Their annual base salaries are expected to increase with favorable reviews and additional experience. But like the proposed funding for teacher pay raises, the money for county employee pay increases was spiked in the budgeting process.

County Administrator Harold Higgins said the people he oversees realize the county’s situation and haven’t protested in the ways the teachers have. Worcester teachers have begun working to the exact terms of their contract and are expected to continue to the end of this school year, June 18.

Wow. It looks like the union really did a great job of bargaining for the teachers. But wait. Didn't union dues go up? Well they need the money to support more liberal politics in Maryland. Worked out great so far hasn't it?

Wicomico Teachers are getting a step and a percentage. Wicomico Sherrifs Deputies got an increase, and once again, regular county workers that lost the step system years ago will get nothing.

Wicomico teachers are getting less than a 1% raise. And the step is one that was taken away a few years ago

How's that MSEA working out for ya now teachers. If the union were truly there for you then why have you been behind in steps so long? Why has your healthcare gone downhill? I guess they were too busy covering up your embezzled dues money!!! Do yourselves a favor and dump that worthless Union!
