TESTIMONY OPPORTUNITY FOR MILITARY DEPENDENTS

SB 843 Higher Education - Military Dependents - In-State Tuition, is scheduled for hearing Wed., March 18 at 1:00 p.m., in my committee - Education, Health and Environmental Affairs. This is an exceptional opportunity for military dependents to have their voices heard, please come testify. Spouses and students heading to college are especially welcome, as are dependents from any district in the state. If you are planning to come and testify, please let us know so that we can say hello.

This bill would exempt spouses and financially-dependent children of active duty and retired members of the United States armed forces, from paying non-resident tuition at a public institution of higher education in the State under specified circumstances.

You must arrive and sign up to testify before the 12:00 registration deadline on the day of the hearing, in order to be called. We would also be happy to accept written support of this bill and submit it to the committee without the need to come. Letters of support can be emailed to Drema at steve.waugh.district@senate.state.md.us. We would love to see military dependents who this would benefit come up to testify for this worthwhile and beneficial legislation.

The bill can be viewed by clicking the link and then once on the page, the pdf link is at the top left, noted as the bill number.
