Maryland Senate Confirms 12 Cabinet Appointees

The Maryland Senate has voted to confirm 12 of Gov. Larry Hogan's Cabinet appointees.

The 46-0 votes on Friday came a week after the Senate delayed voting on five nominees because Democrats who control the chamber were displeased by the Republican governor's State of the State speech, in which he said Maryland's economy was "floundering."

Despite last week's controversy, Sen. James Rosapepe, a Prince George's County Democrat, says he believes the nominees reflect the governor's commitment to work with the Democratic-controlled Legislature.

The confirmed appointments were for secretaries of the departments of health, budget, veterans, planning and labor. They also were for secretaries for the departments of agriculture, human services, general services and public safety and corrections. Hogan's insurance commissioner, secretary of state and adjutant general also were confirmed.
