Wolf can save us $8.75 million by not subsidizing a big new polluter: PennLive letters

In April 2010 the director of the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority claimed that a Perdue soybean factory proposed next to the county incinerator was "a permitted use" and "a no-discharge facility." But, after all this time, Perdue has been unable to get what it in fact seeks — a permit to yearly discharge over 200 tons of the highly dangerous neurotoxin hexane into our already polluted Susquehanna Valley air.

A month ago a welcome Lancaster front-page news headline said, "Perdue vows to cut pollution." Similar coverage in other news, business, and environmental publications followed. But current Pa. DEP documents confirm that Perdue still intends its factory to be a major Pa. polluter and forever dump all those 200 yearly tons of toxic, waste gas on us.

With Gov.-elect Tom Wolf's Mt. Wolf home situated across the Susquehanna River from the factory site, Perdue is pushing for last-minute factory approval before Gov. Tom Corbett leaves office January 20.

While putting Pa. $2 billion in debt, Corbett granted multibillion-dollar Perdue $8.75 million for its unapproved factory. Wolf should withdraw that grant and finally put an end to Perdue's costly, deceptive, nonstop attempts to profit by poisoning Pennsylvania families.

So counties in Pa still have incinerators I presume.Md should still have them as well.

Maybe they can upgrade Pa. to a Detroit type status. Keep liberals in charge and we will all be on a weight loss program. Starving!
