Something in the water': Second dog suffers liver failure after eating false mussels from Arnold creek

On the Friday before Christmas, Scott Gardiner worked on his boat while his dog, Finnegan, romped along the community beach in Arnold.

"Leave it," Gardiner yelled, seeing Finnegan munching something.

Too late.

Within hours, the 4-year-old golden retriever refused food, was throwing up and was getting increasingly lethargic. Within days, his liver enzymes — a normal level is 10 to 100 — jumped to 7,597.3. His eyes turned a jaundiced yellow.

He was the second dog known to have suffered liver failure after eating false dark mussels from Dividing Creek.
