Comptroller Recognizes Berlin For Efforts, Success

BERLIN – Comptroller Peter Franchot got a firsthand look at “America’s Coolest Small Town” with a tour of Main Street and visits to several downtown shops last week.

Franchot, who started his Nov. 21 tour at the town’s visitor’s center, offered town leaders a proclamation recognizing the town’s ongoing effort to maintain its commercial and residential districts before embarking on an excursion down Main Street.

“We’re honored he’s come to see what has made Berlin not just cool but economically successful,” Berlin Mayor Gee Williams said.

Williams took the opportunity to tell Franchot how the town had made the most of its commercial space and about the excursion train he was hoping to see come through the area.

One thing and one thing only has made Berlin successful and that is the generosity of whomever owns the parking lot between the Main St buildings and Williams St.

Seriously though isn't that Laura Mitchell tagging along in the background. It looks like she is carrying a bag, but she wouldn't spend money in Downtown Berlin because they don't accept EBT cards.

I agree as parking can be nightmarish in Berlin. We've gone over for lunch several times and because of something going on at Burbage and we couldn't find convenient parking and have left.
Free convenient parking makes all the difference in the world with renewal projects.

Isn't that Laura Mitchell in the picture?

Certainly looks like her--Salisbury has Berlin's Mayor Gee Williams to thank for their rain tax--he gave the idea to Ireton. All they know is tax and spend. Wonder if Gee gets to keep his made up job with the new governor?

Yes it looks like Laura Mitchell.

I doubt seriously that Governor Hogan will be keeping Gee Williams employed.

Who is getting tired of the "coolest small town" line! I know I am.
