South Carolina State Trooper Arrested After Dashcam Video Captures Shooting Of Unarmed Man

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina state trooper's dashboard video shows an unarmed driver being shot just seconds after he was stopped for a seatbelt offense - and the trooper, who was fired last week, has now been charged with assault.

As Levar Jones cried in pain waiting for an ambulance, he repeated one question: "Why did you shoot me?"

Jones' painful groans and then-Trooper Sean Groubert's reply - "Well you dove head first back into your car" - were captured by the camera.

Groubert's boss, state Public Safety Director Leroy Smith, called the video "disturbing" and said "Groubert reacted to a perceived threat where there was none" as he fired the officer Friday.

Pendulum swinging too far the other way after the last incident.....

From the video, I would have been very suspicious of his upcoming action from the speed he dove back in to his vehicle. Granted, he could have waited a second - but then he could be dead from that wait too!

He must be the ONLY cop in the nation that thinks shooting an unarmed citizen (with his hands up!) is wrong.
I kept waiting for him to say the cop was "afraid".
If a cop is always so damn AFRAID of everything that moves, he should NOT be carrying a gun. I carry a gun and have never shot anyone, although I've been afraid in some situations.
The difference? If I'M afraid, the state would rather I get killed by a mugger than shoot him. And will not hesitate to put me in PRISON for it.
Cops blow away kids, women, unarmed men, animals (on a chain and in a fenced yard!) and they get called "heroes".
All they have to say is "I was afraid!!", because, you know "heroes" are always afraid of their environment.
Short little sissy beotches with little man complexes.

He is too intelligent. They only hire people with low I.Q.'s.

the South is probably the most
brutal when it comes to these
situations.

i saw this on cnn earlier this week. i was horrified. the guy didnt even know he was being stopped. he was using the term "sir" and saying "im sorry" even after he was shot. the cop was screaming for a drivers license, they guy tried to get it, he didn't lunge, he didn't act aggressively. the cop should be charged with attempted murder because that's what it was. i hope i never end up in a situation like this, being shot while following orders and using good manners. i have been on the side of the police in alot of these perp shooting incidents because the perp acted aggressively and tried to injure the cops either with a vehicle or weapon , in this case neither was happening and the guy still didn't stand a chance.

When I applied for a police officer position, they disqualified me.
My aim was too good.

In that case 12:13, one either needs to step up to the plate (regardless of being too intelligent) or quit playing monday morning quarterback. Sheesh!

You seem to have trouble constructing a coherent sentence. You MUST be a cop.

If they are too intelligent, they can't 'step up to the plate' since they won't be hired. Duh.

'Playing monday morning quarterback' means someone is watching kops and trying to make them accountable. Another thing you seem to hate.

And why does anyone have to step up to the plate anyway? If you people would do your JOB correctly, there would be no need for someone else to do it FOR YOU.

And if you can't do your job, it's time to step away from the plate and find something you can do. Royal Farms is hiring.

You are so wrong-headed it is sad. You people just REFUSE to take responsibility for yourselves. You are really not helping your cause.

Coherent or not it seems that you got the point 3:10. You seem to be intelligent, are you tough enough?
