Performing to a sold-out audience, one of country music’s legendary recording artists, Merle Haggard will make an appearance Friday night in Springfest’s Entertainment Pavilion. It is a free event except for the parking and risk of a ticket on R.t 50 or getting into an accident because a MSP stormtrooper jumps out in front of a car ahead of you. On the bright side, it might be safer than going in the summer.

Here's the secret: Drop all your passengers off downtown then have just the driver take the car back to the Park and Ride lot where there's free parking and a couple of bucks to ride the shuttle. With all the extra money in your pocket, you can buy more Chinese crafts. There will also be a shuttle running from the Convention Center.

7:18 PM - Complain if you will and don't attend. I can assure you though that a LOT of people do attend and obviously enjoy looking at all the "junk" that comes back every year. As an aside, the Town actually charges the local Catholic Church the same $1000 or so to have a (fund raising) booth there. Everyone is treated the same.

They should rename it junk fest.
